As this, the final episode, opens Caleb, Gail, Ben and Selena stand around Lucas Buck's grave. As they walk away Caleb asks for a moment alone. His actions suggest that he isn't sad that Lucas has gone; not because he doesn't feel a connection to his father but because he is now the only Buck in town. As Ben drives Caleb home it becomes apparent that he could be as menacing as Lucas but without his self-control; something that would make him very dangerous indeed. He then packs his belongings and leaves the boarding house. He heads to Lucas's house where he finds Senena who informs him that Gail is pregnant with Lucas's child… Caleb demands that she brings Gail to him… alone. Meanwhile it becomes apparent that Lucas isn't really dead; he will be soon though if somebody doesn't did him up. Help comes from an unlikely quarter; Merlyn helps hoping that Lucas will make Caleb normal again. It later emerges that Dr Narone had drugged Lucas and once he has been dug up he wants his revenge. When Gail goes to Lucas's house she is confronted by Caleb who is intent on making sure he is the only Buck child; later Caleb and Lucas must face off to decide which of them will be the only Buck.

This was an impressive concluding episode; it has all the darkness one would expect from the series as well as an ambiguous ending. Of course this was only intended as an end of season cliff-hanger but works at least as well as a last ever episode as it leaves the viewer wondering rather than wrapping everything up. Lucas was always a disturbing character but Caleb proves to be even more so. The scene where he threatens Ben was particularly effective. Young Lucas Black was on great form as the menacing Caleb and Nick Searcy looked believably scared as Ben. That isn't even the worst of Caleb's actions; his attack on his cousin Gail was definitely disturbing. The rest of the cast were solid too; I was pleased to see Sarah Paulson getting a significant role as Merlyn as what Lucas did to her in the opening episode was what first showed us just how evil the sheriff is. Overall this episode was one of the best; it left me wanting more but also glad the series ended on such a high.
