In 1946, during the Easter picnic and egg hunt, eight-year-old Diana has a fight with her loving father who has just returned from World War II. She's been holding a grudge against him for years, because she doesn't understand why he had to leave her several years ago. During the game, she vanishes in the woods. The search party fails to find her and they end up blaming hidden quicksand spots in the woods for the tragedy. 40 years later, her parents are now old and her mother is on her deathbed, but they're still hoping that they'll see their little baby girl somehow, even if only for a spell.
