After a half dozen of bad episodes with a very forced arc involving Billy and Ally rekindling their romance, this episode gets the series back on track. It has an interesting legal case where Peter MacNichol has to pull even more than his usual number of outrageous lawyer tricks.
What this episode shows is that the romantic aspects of Ally's life has to be balanced by interesting legal cases to really make the show believable and enjoyable. Here, John Cage comes out swinging against a politician who has driven a bookstore out of business by his ads connecting it with pornography. Here, even Lucy Liu, who was simply annoying in all previous episodes actually plays a important and funny role. She pretends to be against the bookstore owner and keeps protesting how ridiculous the case is. She is so annoying that the audience has to be sympathetic to the bookstore owner.
It was obvious from the beginning of the series that Billy was over Ally and the arc of the last few episodes, could not have ended with them getting back together. Neither Ally nor Billy would betray Georgia that way. Hopefully this episode gets the series back on track and we can write off the last half dozen episodes of season two as just a long mistake that this episode erased.
