Firing on All Eight Cylinders

It is too bad that they couldn't have just erased the first 15 episodes of Season 5 and started it with this one. This is as fast paced and funny as any of the best early season episodes. It brings back John Cage, who was desperately missed this season, gives Nell something to do (at last), introduces Christina Ricci as Lolita, who is the best continuing character since Anne Haste's Melanie. It also include precious scenes from Matthew Perry. With this cast, the series could have and should have continued for two more years. Unfortunately, the audience had already tuned out by this time, and the Fox Network had bailed on the series instead of letting the audience re-find it.

The one where Matthew Perry guest stars

Warning: Spoilers
With ratings down this show was desperately trying to retool itself in order to try to recapture its audience. It would not succeed.

They did however flood the decks with big guest stars, such as the always lovely Christina Ricci and in this double episode, Matthew Perry, who is his normal charming self.

Perry talked in interviews prior to this episode airing that his character was darker than he normally played, but in a show like 'Ally' there's only so far he can go with this. Yes, he's smarmier than Chandler on 'Friends', but he's not that bad.

An episode, like so many late in 'Ally's' run that is boosted by a guest star.
