Episode cast overview:

Archie comes home irritated about a woman who asked him to put out his cigar on an elevator. He argues with Mike and Gloria about the new law about not smoking on elevators, to which Archie blows a raspberry. In a show of will-power Mike and Archie make a $20 bet. Mike agrees to give up eating for two days if Archie can give up smoking. Suspicious of each other, they sleep in the same bed and drive each other crazy. The next day they drive each other even crazier when Mike reveals all the hiding places where Archie has hidden cigars. Archie temps Mike with pudding while Mike temps Archie with smoking. Finally, Edith puts a stop to the contest by suggesting that Archie light up at the same moment that Mike takes a bite of pudding. Archie cheats and doesn't light the cigar but, while mocking Mike, karma intercedes and he burns his fingers with the match. It is never revealed whether Mike paid Archie the $20. Mike's sinuses
6 June 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This is a very funny episode where all members of the family contribute, even boring Gloria, but this is the only time that she smokes a cigar to prove to her father that the stench gets in her hair, and is very annoying to those around him. When Mike speaks up about it, Archie says he'll give up cigars if Mike will give up eating, as the bet ends up being set for 48 hours. Although I'm sure this was unintentional by Edith, after they shake on the bet, she soon declares that it's time for lunch, much to the chagrin of Mike. What follows is probably the funniest scene, as the men don't trust one another and they won't let each other out of their sights, they decide to sleep in the same bed to make sure no one cheats. A small tidbit I forgot to mention is that Mike is allowed to drink water only, and he thinks fasting for a day or two is a good thing to cleanse the body. While Archie tries sleeping, he opens his eyes and sees Mike staring at him, to which Archie complains that he can't sleep with someone looking at him; Mike says he HAS to face that direction because of his sinuses. The best line has Archie saying, "you mean I'm sleeping with a guy with a leak" to which the audience cracks up. There's more funny lines that I don't have time to mention, and I won't spoil how the bet gets resolved, but this is just another great episode from this great series.
