Dixon secretly enlists Sydney to help him prove that Sloane is double-crossing the CIA and using APO to steel the Blackwell Index, a master blackmail list, and to reconstruct the Alliance of Twelve. Sydney makes her way into Sloane's house so as to copy the encryption key from his secure phone and crack his phone calls. When Nadia finds Sydney snooping around Sloan's computer, she doesn't tell him, but becomes disappointed in her sister and begins to lose trust with Sydney. Meanwhile, Vaughn discovers something disturbing about his late father when he visits his comatose, dying uncle who makes a remark about seeing his father... recently. Written by Anonymous

Chase tells Dixon that Sloane is authorized to contact his former associates. In the previous two episodes he had to step down as APO Director because the situation involved former associates. One would assume that if Sloane were unable to contact any of his former associates he would be pretty useless at his job. In the previous episodes it was stated that Sloane could not have contact with a select number of his former associates who were on a list, including Anna Espinosa and Sark. It seems that the man he contacted in this episode is not on that list. See more »

Sydney Bristow: [Sydney and Dixon are in Micro Self Storage] I used to meet Vaughn like this, when he was my handler as SD-6.
Marcus Dixon: Must have been romantic.

Awesome mind-f*** of an episode
8 January 2010 | by See all my reviews

Sloane calls in the APO team and assigns them their new mission: steal a decoder from the French police, so that the incriminating files encoded on a mobile computer which was stolen from a CIA facility cannot be read and used for blackmail. But Dixon suspects that Sloane only wants the decoder for himself, as part of his plan to re-build the Alliance. Sydney agrees to help him find out the truth, but cannot avoid getting Nadia involved in the situation. Lots of parallels with season 1 in this episode, as Sydney not only has a mission and a countermission, but later has to perform a dangerous operation inside Sloane's own house, just like she did in "Page 47". Lots of twists as well, but one in particular near the end first left me with my mouth hanging open, then made me smile out of admiration for the simple way a TV series could still have me completely fooled in its 76th episode. Everything works in "The Index", from the big action moments (Sydney's Jackie Chan-type jump to a helicopter, Nadia's climactic slam-bang rescue operation) to the small character moments (Nadia's birthday cake speech, Dixon's and Director Chase's (Angela Bassett) subtle flirting at the end). Even Vaughn's seemingly irrelevant subplot turns out to have a purpose. *** out of 4.
