No Way Out

Remember that 1987 spy thriller with Kevin Costner? The one where an incriminating but fuzzy shot of him is slowly being blown-up until he can become recognizable? Well, Sydney finds herself in a similar situation here: it turns out that there was another camera at the office where she killed that Russian diplomat, and although her face can be seen (not yet) on just one frame, thanks to Marshall's technical expertise the picture will be clear in a few hours. Jack must find a way to prevent this from happening, while Sydney re-unites (hence the title) with Vaughn on the field in a mission to steal a Russian anti-satellite pulse weapon before Sark and his accomplices do. The tension and awkwardness between Sydney, Vaughn and his new wife Lauren are well-handled (may I take a moment here to say that Melissa George is GORGEOUS; but the loss of so many cast members from Season 2, and especially Lena Olin and Terry O'Quinn, is still felt), but I have to agree with the other comment that the fact that nobody even mentions the obvious resemblance of the woman in the picture (even before it is 100% clear) to Sydney is downright absurd. Especially Dixon, who was staring at it the whole time! I also wonder if they're pushing for a Sydney-Weiss romantic angle, I don't see much future in that. Gotta love Sloane's sinister smile at the end of his sequence, though! *** out of 4.
