Storyline

Jack contacts a mysterious woman, that of former KGB agent Katya Derevko, Irina's older sister, to help him free Sydney and Vaughn, whose plane has crashed inside North Korea while seeking to find a defecting Russian scientist, named Leonid Lisenker, whom Sark is trying to kill before turning himself to the CIA. But Jack is faced with a curious conundrum when Katya tells him that she will not put the rescue plan in motion until he fulfills a favor: assassinate Sloane. Written by Anonymous

Quotes

Jack Bristow: Tell me, which of Irina's sisters are you? Elena or Ekatarina?
Katya Derevko: I haven't been Ekatarina since I was a child. My sisters call me Katya. Which means Irina wasn't the one who told you about me.
Jack Bristow: Learning that your wife is actually a Russian spy drives you to learn all you can about her true identity.

"You never forget what it feels like....to barely escape with your life"

That's what Sloane says to Jack, right after realizing that he just had a close brush with death. And he isn't the only one: Sydney and Vaughn are placed in the receiving end of a firing squad, as the episode opens with a deliberately deceptive flashforward - it's a technique that "Alias" has used before, most notably in "Truth Takes Time", but since it works again, why complain? I can complain, or rather worry, about what they're doing with Lauren: they have to find a way to make her "double agent" story original and interesting, otherwise it's in danger of feeling like a rehash of the "Francie" situation of the second half of season 2. In any case, the series hasn't lost its knack for selecting guest stars: Isabella Rossellini is perfectly cast as Irina Derevko's sister (from the looks to the way she speaks to her sudden bursts of violence, the family resemblance is noticeable), and Arnold Vosloo is amusingly creepy as a Covenant middleman. *** out of 4.
