Superstitions And Such
ccthemovieman-110 August 2006
As in the last episode, there are a lot of familiar faces in this one. Many of the actors who played crooks in numerous episodes are in this fraud story as a Prof. Jody (played wildly by Leonard Mudie - nice name) claims to have a magic necklace from Tibet which protects whomever is wearing it from death. He knows it's baloney but no one else knows he knows, and, being dumb superstitious people the rest of the cast all buys it, from all the crooks to Lois Lanes.

The bad guys are trying to get their hands on it while snoopy Lane gets herself (and Jimmy Olsen, who always seems to tag along with her) in trouble again. The only one who doesn't believe "magic" throughout the show is Clark Kent.

All the reporters are held hostage in Tibet and what happens to the big, happy entourage of good and bad people, well....you'll have to buy Supermans Seasons 3 and 4 DVD set (which, so far, is excellent.)

Borrowing a bit of schtick from THE MUMMY Pictures.

Warning: Spoilers
AS A SORT OF change of pace and an expected episode variance at once, we have the inclusion of a tale of a mysterious Middle Eastern cult. Added to the mix, we find the intervention of the typical American Gangster with the ultimate heroics being performed by Superman.

THE STORY BEGINS with Miss Lois Lane's wearing of a jeweled necklace that is reputed to protect the wearer from any personal harm. SWhe wears it as part of her assignment to interview some big wigs from the fictional Asian Kingdom; which is fine. That is, it is okay until someone decides that she is a long missing Princess or some such.

THE GANG, OF course is only interested in the value such an artifact for its alleged supernatural powers and how that would render this band of no-goodniks virtually unstoppable in their quest for ill-gotten wealth.

IN THE END, Lois is rescued from harm by Superman and neither the Asian Cultists nor the Home Grown hoodlums could do her any harm. It was one of the foreign protagonists stated at story's end that she had left the necklace behind her and that meant that she would return one day.

OF PARTICULAR INTEREST to fans of the series, or to old movie buffs in general, is the inclusion of veteran character actor, Frank Jenks in the cast. This being his second appearance in the SUPERMAN TV Series, he played a Gangster. In his first appearance in Season One's THE STOLEN COSTUME, he was cast as Kent's Private Detective Candy Jackson.

Running Neck and Neck
Hitchcoc7 February 2015
There are some hilarious scenes in this episode. The gist of the story is that some archaeologist claims to have found a necklace in Tibet that makes the wearer invulnerable. A bad guy and his henchmen go to a museum at night and open crates. Whenever they find a necklace, one of the sidekicks must drink poison to see if he is protected by the jewelry. When they begin to convulse, the boss administers an antidote. Eventually, they realize that the guy who has the necklace will not be sending it to Metropolis. As usual, Lois and Jimmy get caught up in things and end up on their way to Tibet with the goons. Once their, we realize that the professor and owner of the necklace is a fraud, but Lois and Jim are potentially in danger. Clark suddenly shows up which means that he actually flew there as Superman. What to do to get the bad guys, not be connected to Superman, and rescue Jim and Lois. It's an intriguing premise.
