An Intelligent Story, Which Is Unusual But Isn't As Much Fun, 16 November 2006
6/10
Author: ccthemovieman-1 from Lockport, NY, United States

Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen are over in Paris when they get a call to see the Prefect of Police. Lo and behold, it's "Inspector Henderson." Well, not really, it's "Inspector Lonier" (Robert Shayne) giving us his best French accent) - a Henderson lookalike. Well, it certainly was an attention-grabber to start off the fifth season.

The inspector gives Kent a letter for Superman. It's from Madame Constantine (Lilyan Chauvin) who writes that she is in trouble and needs his protection. Note: Chauvin is still alive and doing movies at the age of 80!

Anyway, after Lonier leaves, Clark sends Jimmy off on an errand so that he can quickly change into Superman, fly out the window and meet the woman. Upon meeting her and her friend, who live in nearby country, Superman is talked into flying some very valuable jewels back into Paris and then giving them back to her at a pre-arranged meeting place. (She was concerned she wouldn't be able to get jewels over the border.) When the rendezvous happens, the French police are there to apprehend Madame and her friend, explaining to an embarrassed Superman that he had been had by these crooks. They make Superman look like an idiot. Soon, however, Superman/Kent find out he had been had - but not by Ms. Constantine. The "police" were fakes; crooks getting the diamonds.

A few minutes later there is another big twist. This episode actually had some intelligence to it, almost like a spy movie in which you don't know who the good guys or the bad guys are. Actually, I'm not sure I liked all of this. These old Superman TV episodes are more fun when they are totally simple and stupid!

I was also impressed they used some new sets - not the same old/same old. This actually looked like they upped the budget maybe another hundred bucks! It looked nice.
