A Futile Try At Psychology
ccthemovieman-120 August 2006
This was my first look at an old Ozzie & Harriet show in over 40 years. The episode turned out to be one of the last (Dec, 1965 - 14th season) but I figured that out in the first few minutes when I saw how old Rick and his buddy "Wally" (Skip Young?) were and that wife Kris (Kristin Harmon) was with Rick. The show starts off with poor Wally at the soda shop with a date. His girlfriend "Ginger" says "it's over" and dumps ice water over his head before stomping off. Rick and Kris enter and Wally's also mad because she stuck him with the bill! They invite the poor dumped boob over to the house for dinner and Wally spills his problems to Rick and his dad. Ozzie suggests to Wally that he go out and find a new girl.

Kris, inspired by a psychology book, concocts a plan for Wally to ask the prom queen out, have her accept, make Ginger jealous and Wally could ask her out again with everyone being hunky-dory once again. Wally, a fat slob who would never have a chance at having her accept a date, is enticed to call the girl not knowing Rick and Kris have already set it up so the girl answers "yes," even though she doesn't mean it. However, the psychological plan doesn't work as Wally is so excited about the prom queen that he isn't about to ask Ginger out. Actually, it's pretty funny, better than I am making it sound.

From that point, Rick, Kris and Ozzie try all sorts of tricks to try to get Wally back to Ginger. After awhile, people are changing dates every five minutes For total fluff, it's not a bad episode.

From everything I have read, however, I need to find some of the early episodes when Rick and older brother are young teens. Those were the best shows apparently. I believe that. One reviewer also commented about how nasty, insecure, insulting and henpecking a wife Kris is the Ricky. I noticed that more and more in this episode, so I would not be willing purchase other discs if she's in it and that's the case. Why they can't just release these shows in season-by-season format is beyond me.

One note: the cast members listed for this episode of the main page are NOT the ones in this show. Something is off.
