"A sanctuary where secrets are never mislaid"

Season 1 of 'Adam Adamant Lives!' ended in September 1966. Fans did not have to wait long for his return. New Year's Eve of that year, to be precise. Season 2 was given a bigger budget, fight scenes courtesy of 'Havoc' ( who later worked on the Jon Pertwee 'Dr.Who' shows ), and a Saturday evening slot. Hinkaya ( Horace James ), the African Premier of Imbala, is in the U.K. for an important conference, and the British Government wants him to stay alive long enough to attend it. Adam Adamant is entrusted with the responsibility of finding him a safe hiding place. A pair of assassins are on his trail. Adam is knocked out

confused - were his exploits in 1966 all a dream? He meets up with 'Louise' ( Mary Yeomans ), his lady love, and when 'Georgie' ( Juliet Harmer ) and 'Simms' ( Jack May ) claim to be different people, starts to doubt his sanity. It is only when 'Doctor Sanderson' ( Peter Madden a.k.a. 'Hobbs' of 'Danger Man' ) makes a blunder about Woodrow Wilson does the intrepid adventurer realise he has been had...

Based on a story by 'Avengers' supremo Brian Clemens, 'Reincarnation' got the second season of 'Adam Adamant Lives!' off to a strong start. It is like 'Mission: Impossible' insofar that it focuses on an attempt to extract important information from an individual by means of an elaborate scam. Clemens went on to write variants on the idea, such as the 'Avengers' caper 'Requiem' and the 'Protectors' story 'Thinkback'.

The episode was selected in 1969 by Gerald Harper for his 'Star Choice' ( a series in which celebrities chose episodes of their own work ), and marked Adam's last appearance on the B.B.C. until 1991 ( when 'A Vintage Year For Scoundrels' was shown as part of the 'One Day In The Sixties' theme night ). Despite the B.B.C. receiving many requests to repeat the show in its entirety, they chose not to do so. The arrival of colour television in 1969 effectively put Adam back in his block of ice.

Of the twelve missing 'Adam' adventures, this is the one I would most like to see recovered.
