Stage Door goes west
bkoganbing17 March 2017
This bit of work for Jeff Spencer came involved with a lot of fringe benefits. He's given a retainer by Kay Stewart to keep an eye on her daughter because she thinks someone is trying to kill her. Roger Smith goes incognito to an awards event in the guise of a producer. But after the ceremony Kaye Elhardt is shot to death and the cops are calling it suicide.

If some of this sounds very familiar the principals all live in a boardinghouse for young Hollywood hopefuls a whole lot like the one that Katharine Hepburn and the rest lived in Stage Door. Some plot elements are present in this story.

But of course there's murder here and a real suicide in the RKO classic. The murderer in fact is a real piece of work, you have to see it to believe it.

Warning: Spoilers
It begins with the usual scheme of the mother coming to the detective's office because her daughter has disappeared. The only clue is that the young woman wanted to become an actress. So, as you may guess, the topic will drive us into the backstage Hollywood jungle, but not as we have already seen, although. This episode is directed by Andre de Toth, and the Hollywood vet touch is here, even if the plot is not so unusual or terrific, I admit. Jeff is the one in charge of the case, not Stuart.

I don't know what to say more about this story, enough to full the number of lines wanted to make my comment accepted...
