Dick Needs the Truth!
gab-1471211 September 2019
Yes, Dick, sometimes people will attempt to flatter others to make them do what they want. Lying is fun, ain't it? Well, Dick does not think so in this tenth episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun's first season, "Truth or Dick." Mary is supposed to attend some committee meeting, but she is unable to attend. She uses her flattering technique to make Dick attend in her stead. Once he learns about this trick, he tries to understand why people would lie to each other. Meanwhile, Harry and Sally try to get themselves a driver's license, and Tommy enters puberty when he grows a pimple on his face.

This was a fun, if somewhat forgettable episode. The "A" plot is really good! Watching John Lithgow and Jane Curtin flatter each other is very amusing. The rest of the storylines are solid, but nothing worth writing home about. Now, Dick can understand the nuances of flattering!

According to this, you're a 300-pound, 75-year-old, Asian woman.

At last, Dick learns the subtle nuances of truth and lies.

Unfortunately, not before Mary flatters him into subbing for her at a meeting of the Rules Committee. Of course, she's filled Dick's mind with her all-too-honest opinions of the Committee, so is this really just ringing Dick's dinner bell? Watch and see!

(In the episode's B plot line, Harry and Sally go to the DMV to get driver's licenses.)

More great humor, more great character development, and the committee scene is absolutely wondrous.
