Ruze pro Zemana (The Rose for Zeman) is the final episode of the legendary Czech propagandistic serial that contains "thirty cases" of Czech successful criminologist. Most of these cases has some ideological content. This one is both a resolution of a murder of a sub-dealer and monitoring of foreign agents and spies in Prague. The plot is elaborate. There is many elements that dramatizes the storyline (e. g. Zeman's apprehension from his future, his misgiving to his superior, references to previous volumes...). The criminology part of story is weak, the ideological one seems now to be naive, but the history tells us that these methods of propaganda works. I dislike communism but I like this movie because its nostalgic atmosphere and some performances (Josef Bek as Dr. Salaba is wonderful, Václav Voska (a dandy of Czech cinematography) as a antiquarian and descendant of old noble house Kaunic has amazing charm of dying nobility in the phase of communistic "normalization"). The music of Zdenek Liska is also beautiful.
