This is my third season of watching 24, having missed the first two and
it seems like our hero, Jack Bauer, is always being accused of things
he did not do. Does anybody else find that to be true? That poor guy
goes through more pain and sacrifice, and seems to get little respect
and trust for what he does. This one tops them all, being accused of
assassinating his great friend, former President Palmer.
How could anybody connected with CTU, even if they are new on the job (as they seem to be each year that I've watched), not trust Bauer after all he's done? I know it's only a TV show, but it's frustrating to see.
Well, at least we know one early storyline for this season: Jack having to once again prove his innocence and, once again, with everyone after him: good guys and bad guys.
We also begin to learn more about who the bad guys are and what is their motive, at least early in this season. The answer lies with anti-terrorist alliance talks between the President and the Premier of Russia. Obviously, some terrorists want to sabotage those talks and we can tell from the accents they are Russians.
Jack, with help from Chloe and then a little bit from Palmer's brother "Wayne," tries to find out who's behind the assassination and sneaks into the building in which Palmer was killed, despite a hundred FBI agents there. (Hmm, I've heard this show begins to stretch credibility quite a bit by this fifth year, and this may be the start) and escapes, too!
Well, it's all part of the fun and games of big-time suspense, intrigue, betrayal, action and what not that makes this show so popular. You never know who to trust and what bizarre thing will happen next.
Here, we find out about a few people who looked anything like allies but now appear to be people who could help Jack, and we find out a few folks who are supposed to be good guys but obviously aren't, such as the Chief Of Staff "Walt Cummings" to President Logan and probably someone at CTU. There's always a mole at CTU, which has the worst security in America. My guess, at this point, is Spenser.
This episodes ends with a dramatic scene at the airport in Los Angeles, as a bunch of Russian thugs are apparently attempting to get the President's attention. What they don't know is that Jack is in the building!!! Stay tuned.....

Jack and Chloe O'Brian infiltrate Wayne Palmer's penthouse at the hotel
in hopes of finding a lead. At the penthouse Wayne Palmer walks in.
After Jack manages to convince him of his innocence, Wayne helps Jack
look for clues as to why David Palmer was targeted. Jack finds the
information that David Palmer possessed that got him killed a clue
leading to Ontario Airport in Los Angeles. Martha tries to convince her
husband that she had a conversation with Palmer the night before. As
Jack heads to the airport to investigate, Walt Cummings is revealed to
be a traitor and his ally James Nathanson launches the next phase
of his plan at the Ontario Airport.
In summary, here the events that happened during that hour:
1.President Charles Logan tells Walt Cummings about his wife's alleged conversation with David Palmer. Cummings then offers to investigate the call in order to try to bring her back to reality. When Logan plays the recording to Martha, she insists that the phone call was indeed real, and that the conversation in the recording isn't. Meanwhile, Cummings tells his co-conspirator and boss James Nathanson that he has successfully fabricated and manipulated Martha's call with President Palmer to ensure that there is no evidence on his end about the plan.
2.Chloe O'Brian is accessing CTU servers remotely, but is discovered by Edgar Stiles, who informs Bill Buchanan about it. As Jack sneaks out of Wayne Palmer's apartment, Chloe informs him that Chevensky is a baggage supervisor at Ontario Airport. At this point, Agent Jennings traps Chloe and Jack in the parking garage of the apartment building. Chloe drives the van out of the parking lot and gets captured. As she is being arrested, she tells Bill Buchanan that Jack's innocent.
3.Jack Bauer arrives at Ontario Airport and asks for Chevensky. As he looks for the office, Derek Huxley notices armed men walking inside the airport and runs inside to warn Jack. As Anton Beresch and his men position themselves inside the airport, they set up an explosion outside and take control of the airport. While Jack is distracted by the explosion outside, Chevensky commits suicide by ingesting a cyanide pill before Jack can stop him. Finally, Beresch tells the civilians inside the airport to be quiet and they won't be harmed, as long the President complies with their demands.
In this episode,we get to see things get more intriguing to the point that it becomes more entertaining like Jack getting blamed for the deaths of former President Palmer. Also,we get to realize that the first lady - Martha Logan - did have a conversation with the former President and some men are trying to make sure that it get covered up to avoid suspicions from the end of the current President Charles Logan. In the end, after the season started with a bang in the first hour, deceit and intrigue characterized this next hour of the show.
