*** This review may contain spoilers ***
This is my third season of watching 24, having missed the first two and it seems like our hero, Jack Bauer, is always being accused of things he did not do. Does anybody else find that to be true? That poor guy goes through more pain and sacrifice, and seems to get little respect and trust for what he does. This one tops them all, being accused of assassinating his great friend, former President Palmer.
How could anybody connected with CTU, even if they are new on the job (as they seem to be each year that I've watched), not trust Bauer after all he's done? I know it's only a TV show, but it's frustrating to see.
Well, at least we know one early storyline for this season: Jack having to once again prove his innocence and, once again, with everyone after him: good guys and bad guys.
We also begin to learn more about who the bad guys are and what is their motive, at least early in this season. The answer lies with anti-terrorist alliance talks between the President and the Premier of Russia. Obviously, some terrorists want to sabotage those talks and we can tell from the accents they are Russians.
Jack, with help from Chloe and then a little bit from Palmer's brother "Wayne," tries to find out who's behind the assassination and sneaks into the building in which Palmer was killed, despite a hundred FBI agents there. (Hmm, I've heard this show begins to stretch credibility quite a bit by this fifth year, and this may be the start) and escapes, too!
Well, it's all part of the fun and games of big-time suspense, intrigue, betrayal, action and what not that makes this show so popular. You never know who to trust and what bizarre thing will happen next.
Here, we find out about a few people who looked anything like allies but now appear to be people who could help Jack, and we find out a few folks who are supposed to be good guys but obviously aren't, such as the Chief Of Staff "Walt Cummings" to President Logan and probably someone at CTU. There's always a mole at CTU, which has the worst security in America. My guess, at this point, is Spenser.
This episodes ends with a dramatic scene at the airport in Los Angeles, as a bunch of Russian thugs are apparently attempting to get the President's attention. What they don't know is that Jack is in the building!!! Stay tuned.....
