Trivia

According to the liner notes of the Season 2 DVD, the episode "Christmas in Saigon" was based on the actual experiences of Dustin Nguyen's escape in Vietnam. However, the difference between the episode and Nguyen's real life is that Nguyen's parents survived (whereas in the episode, his parents died). See more »

One of my favorite 21 Jump Street episodes
5 November 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I love the 21 Jump Street series, and one of my favorite characters was Harry Ioki, played by Dustin Nguyen. 21 Jump Street was groundbreaking in its day, featuring a Vietnamese-American actor in a leading role, on a network no less.

Here in this episode Harry is the focus of the story and the revelation that Harry was in fact a Vietnamese refugee Vinh Van Tran, who apparently entered the USA illegally (although by law refugees aren't exactly illegal entrants, as they are seeking refuge), really sets things off. Captain Fuller (Steven Williams) gets all suspicious about Harry, because he fought in 'Nam. Anyway, Captain Fuller comes around and offers his full support for Harry.
