Dated, but Still Great Extension of the Book, 31 January 2002
7/10
Author: Ryan J. Gilmer (ryanjgilmer007@aol.com) from Plymouth, MN, USA

As with most exercise videos, the activities seem easy enough until you try to do them. Callanetics is the same. This video is mainly a 60 minute stretching exercise based off of a book by and hosted by Callan Pinckney.

It is always good to view the exercies before you try them (at least that is what most exercise tapes say) and Callanetics is no different.

In fact as some of the exercies are shown, Mrs. Pinckney shows some of the typical errors and also easier ways to do the exercises until your muscles are toned enough.

Still, doing the streches is no small feat. They seem simple to do and the 10 people doing them on the video (even the 78 year old mother of Callan Pinckney) have an easy time, but of course these people (who aren't/weren't actors in 1986) have done the stretches before.

The before and after/"untouched" photos are a nice touch and the background information on Callan Pinckney adds some realism to the video. Hopefully, 16-19 hours is all it takes (as said on the video).

Rated: 7

Great workout, 6 April 2008
10/10
Author: mperry48-2 from Massachusetts, United States

This '80s workout is probably the best I've ever done. Sure, the music, scenery and costumes are out of style now but that's not why I bought this video. This excellent workout toned, firmed and strengthened this pathetically out-of-shape, middle-aged woman in less than 2 months. And I was pleasantly surprised to see results in the first week (even though my form was lousy and I didn't do all the reps). I am also more energetic now and have no difficulty keeping up with grandchildren, ages 3 and 1. Best of all, I didn't have to change my eating habits at all, yet I still lost inches and slimmed down enough to get rid of all my "fat clothes". The video was slightly annoying at first because I sometimes had to get into positions where I couldn't see the the screen. But this wasn't a problem after the first few workouts. I highly recommend this video for anyone who can invest 2 hours per week in building a stronger, more flexible and healthier body.
