An Unwieldy Mess
3 March 2006 | by (utah) – See all my reviews

Unfortunately adding more isn't always better and in this case, this new version of the 2004 What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? is more of compilation pile-on of incompatible, convoluted patter that doesn't mesh well with the more simple storyline plus personal interview format of the original. Now instead, this new version has a third animated component as well as somewhat less professionally shot updated interviews that aren't seamlessly compatible with the original dramatic story or personal interviews that make the entire product more unmanageable, unwieldy and boring. For those who are really, really interested in this stuff, the updated version will provide more of the same along with even two modified concepts that push the envelope of reality even further.

There are spots of improvements including the wedding sequence and reflective, angry scene of Marlee Matlin, but much of the rest of the movie becomes unbalanced even with a somewhat extended drama, it becomes almost lost with the incessant interviews along side the addition of the child-like superhero cartoon figure as teacher. Even the new opening sequence is confusing and strange not mystic or appealing. Three out of Ten Stars. May be considered one of the worst remakes and movies of the year.
