Some critics, bloggers and other movie viewers have compared this film to Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever (2002) due to it containing a similar storyline (disgruntled federal agent figuring out a conspiracy), people varying on the action scenes being exciting or not, both films being advertised as a versus film only for both lead stars to square off briefly on-screen and due to overwhelming dislike with both films. Both films also starred Terry Chen. See more »
Depleted uranium literally makes no sense as ammunition for an assassin to carry and use in his personal weapon. It is a very dense, very heavy metal, and the only military application for its use in ammunition is for armour-piercing purposes in 20mm-30mm calibre cannon shells. It would be too heavy for a standard handgun's powder load, making it underpowered and have a shorter range and less stopping power; but increasing the powder load to compensate for the weight would make the weapon kick much more and therefore be much less accurate. And since a heavy round tends to have high penetration but low stopping power and punches straight through a target, someone who gets shot with it would be far more likely to survive than if they were shot with the same calibre hollow tip round in the same place. A final point against it is that carrying a radioactive metal constantly on your body would probably cause cancer in the long term. This is just fictional nonsense from the filmmakers. See more »

Jet Li and Jason Stathan are two very charismatic actors (particularly in action movies) but never been able to achieve a big success in the American market. It seems the only reason (very stupid really) is they do not speak "American English" (Stathan is British and Jet Li Chinese); something never bothered Arnold .
In any case, this time are both back and together in a thriller full cruel and bloody violent scene and several unexpected twists that completely change the movie.
Those expecting over the top martial arts fights will be disappointed. Most of the action is gun based however extremely realistic (and violent) and the good guys do not hesitate on killing in cold blood.
War is about people trying to avenge killings, fights for power and honor between Japanese Yakuza, Chinese Triads and ambition. By the end of the movie, everybody has betrayed somebody else.
Compared to other action movies, WAR requires more brains, has little humor and could be consider a little slow but it is really worth your time.
