What the new CGI Yoda will look like in Star Wars Episode I

24 August 2011 10:30 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Yesterday I made a huge mistake and did a rant on how George Lucas was replacing puppet Yoda with a CGI Yoda in the original Star Wars trilogy for the Blu-ray release. When in reality it was only going to be a replacement for the crappy Yoda puppet in Star Wars Episode 1, which I'm fine with. I may never watch The Phantom Menace ever again anyway.  I don't know why, but completely missed the detail that it was only for Episode I. Sorry about that.

Anyway, we have out first look at what the CGI Yoda will look like the Episode I Blu-ray, and it's definitely an improvement. You can compare the old Yoda and the new Yoda by watching the video's below. The new digital Yoda made it's debut in a 15-minute documentary called The Chosen One. Check it out and tell us what you think!

Compare the New CGI Yoda in ‘The Phantom Menace’ With the Original Version

24 August 2011 9:55 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

We're so far beyond the point where complaining about George Lucas making changes to Star Wars is actually an expression of surprise or outrage. It's just a ritual. We expect him to change things around every time the films hit a new format, so much so that I think there would be more genuine surprise expressed if the saga hit Blu-ray and didn't feature any new alterations. Not to worry however, as the films are hitting Blu-ray soon and changes have indeed been made. Perhaps not as many as we thought might have been the case yesterday, but there is at least one big one: the version of Yoda puppeted by Frank Oz in The Phantom Menace has been replaced with a fully CGI character. You can see side by side clips of the old and new versions below. This isn't the first time we've seen CGI Yoda in The Phantom Menace, »

Parallels Between Harry Potter and Star Wars

23 July 2011 2:47 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

As of Friday morning, the eight movies in the now completed Harry Potter series have grossed a total of $2.23 billion in the United States, surpassing the $2.22 billion earned by the Star Wars saga to date. Globally, Potter has pulled over $7 billion at the box office. Pedantic types are quick to note the rising cost of ticket prices due to inflation and 3D, but it’s impossible to deny the Potter series as the premier franchise of the Aughts and the highest grossing series in movie history. To celebrate this milestone, I thought we’d take a look at some of the eerie and often obvious parallels between two of the most imaginative sagas in cinema. (Includes spoilers. Where have you been?)
