I usually avoid true crime TV programs because I find them depressing and often a little too horrific. It's very appropriate that this series chose John Waters as its host since, although by no means outrageous in the manner of Waters' feature films, it does have a certain dark Waterian sense of humor and "bad taste in good taste" sensibility. The tongue in cheek aspect of having one of our most penetrating gay observers of American culture as a wry observer of these stories of sociopathic heterosexual "love" is delicious and perhaps the main reason why this show only lasted one season. Now that it's out on DVD it's definitely worth investigating if you're a John Waters fan, an aficionado of true crime, or looking for a special gift for a (hetero) friend going through a divorce or breakup.
