Storyline

Three female college students take a detour from their partying, enticed by a beautiful European woman who promises seclusion, safety and maybe even romance. What they get is a living hell where they are sold to the highest bidder who's fondest wish is to kill them slowly. Hostel 2 also follows 2 American men who, on the flip side of the coin, are willing to pay to join an exclusive club where a life will end at their hands...any way they like. It's a story of human monsters and the almighty dollar as only Eli Roth could tell it. Written by Paul Nomad of Dreadcentral.com

Trivia

Edwige Fenech came out of acting retirement to play the role of The Professor. Eli Roth, a huge fan of Fenech, met her in Rome during his Hostel (2005) press tour, and asked her if she'd ever consider acting again. Fenech, now a highly successful producer and film distributor in Italy, told Roth she'd only act again for him, so Roth wrote the part for her. See more »

Goofs

When Beth is first captured, the gun held by the business man is a single-stack .45 ACP 1911 pistol (evidenced by the magazine at the bottom of the weapon). A few seconds later, when the children are lined up, the gun becomes a Beretta with a standard barrel. A few seconds later, when the silencer is attached, the gun magically has an extended threaded barrel (to allow attachment of the silencer). The silencer that was used obviously screwed on, which would not attach to a standard factory barrel. See more »

A sequel worthy of the original
20 April 2008 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Though no masterpiece, Eli Roth's second feature 'Hostel' was a breath of fresh air after so many tired remakes and PG-13 horror. It's a sort of cross between classic horror and modern horror and for the most part it's successful. It was also successful enough moneymaking wise that a 2 was inevitable, but there was one problem: There had already been a number of films in recent years where innocent people are tortured and killed. So with that in mind, could 'Hostel: Part II' be any better than routine? After seeing it, I'd say yes sir.

Pros: An awesome and scary opening dream sequence. Excellent performances all around. Like in the original, the filmmakers make great use of the locations and get some beautiful shots. Moves at a brisk pace. Again the bad guys are creepy and may give you many a sleepless night. Awesome production design and gorgeous architecture. Plenty of the red stuff and some gore. Nathan Barr, composer of the first film, does another good score here. Though not as memorable, this film's ending is still unforgettable.

Cons: Like the first film, this one takes a while to get to the point. As good as the movie is, the 'torture porn' sub-genre is getting old now.

Final thoughts: I'd read a lot of negative things about this sequel and now after seeing it I don't understand all the hate. Sure we've seen some of this before, but there's enough good here to make up for that.

My rating: 4/5
