Why does everyone love this?
davidebaird29 August 2006
I just watched Stalked in the Corn and I am not sure why everyone is fawning over this short. Clearly, its not a short film at all. Just a trailer for a movie that has not yet come out. It's obvious that the footage in this trailer will not be in the film either, so I am not sure what there is to get excited about. It looks good and was shot well. The acting was pretty weak. Especially the guy. He was terrible and looked about 20 years older than the girl. She was cute, but was wearing too much eye makeup and her boobs were way too small for this type of thing. Other than the acting, it was pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but entertaining for the ten minutes or so that I watched it. I would have liked to see more of the villain and had a little more blood and guts. There's really not much else to say. I just wanted to comment on this so-called short because everyone seems to love it and, while its good, it ain't Gone With The Wind.

Sex, Blood and Cornfields
microsoftwindowssucks21 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched a short film called Thexus: The Last Man on the Internet Archive and posted a review of it. When I called up the link again, to show it to a buddy of mine, another project by Ryan Heppe popped up. This one was called Stalked. Technically, this is leaps and bounds better than Thexus. It looks great. Moves quickly. And, above all, its fun.

Basically, you have a boy and a girl who are making out in a car. They head to a cornfield and have sex (and if you like T&A, this is definitely a scene for you). Afterwards, they are systematically killed by a mysterious figure in the corn. While the dialog performances are a bit weak, the rest of this short gets high marks.

I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend downloading it. It's great fun. And, won't eat up a lot of your time. Oh yeah, its also shot in High-Definition Video so it looks great, too. Apparently, its a pitch for a feature. I would LOVE to see this when it gets made.

A Good Piece of Work
ryan-73521 February 2006
While browsing through the Internet Archive attempting to find additional material for my first full length independent film (which, interestingly enough is to be produced by Knight's Studios -- very close to Knightime Pictures LLC), I came across this gem. It looks great, the cinematography is flawless, and the sound is perfect. Creepy music. All the sound effects are in the right place. To be honest, I am a little bit jealous because this is everything an independent film should be, and more. I don't know if the director, Ryan E. Heppe, or the producer, Nick Bird, every look on the IMDb -- but you are on your way to a goldmine. You have me hooked. I would love to see the complete film when it is finished.

Interesting short, though almost too sexy... almost.

Before I start commenting on Stalked in the Corn, I think it's only fair to mention that I share a friend with director Ryan Heppe and my thoughts on the short may seem less than objective, but I assure you I am trying to keep them as such. When I first watched Stalked in the Corn, I thought it was poorly acted (mostly in the first scene) but visually very interesting. Some the images are really quite beautiful. I was amazed to see that Ryan himself with the Director of Photography as I know quite well that is not his trade by any stretch of the imagination. I though the sex scene was very well done, very titillating, and quite beautiful. The horror element at the end was rather weak, though I assume this was due to the lack of gory effects which I know was a budget constraint. I loved the vines at the end. I love the fonts used. I thought the music was beautiful, though I am not sure who the composer is as none is listed. So, yes, I am giving in a 10 out of 10. Why? Because I think it was very well done. The only real downfall is the acting which drops my vote to an 8, but the visual imagery (and, I must confess, the 80's feel) rate a 15 on a scale of 1 to 10. So, the reality is I want to give this short a 12. Since I cannot, a 10 it is.

I very much like to see young filmmakers out there trying to express themselves. While this may look like just another horror movie pitch to most people, I find it very fresh from a cinematic style and I love the idea of going back to the 80's to make an 80's film. Also, as I am a woman in my early 40's, I want to make it clear that I was in no way offended by the sex scene and, in fact, found it to be very realistic as well as romantic. More people should go out and make beautiful films like this. Good job for everyone involved.

Great Stuff!

I've always been fascinated with American Indy cinema and how on earth they get films made over on the other side of the pond. Case in point, Stalked in the Corn. It's got a great, creepy look. The performances are weak, but the sex scene is really ballsy for any American director. Over here, this would be par for the course. The horror elements were weak and I suspect this was because they lacked enough money to really pull the production together. I watched this short on the Internet Archive website and it states quite firmly that this material is designed strictly as a pitch for the feature film. Considering the amount of c-r-a-p that comes out of Hollywood these days, I say give this yank a chance. I'd love to see what the finished movie looks like. Could be a real winner.

Wow! Really sexy!

I'm not sure if this is a short, at trailer, a horror movie, or soft core porn. But, I like it. The acting isn't very good, but clearly the actors are not professional. I think they were going for a Evil Dead, Children of the Corn kinda thing here. I'm not sure what the "creature" is, but it looked pretty cool. The scene where the vines wrap around the girl are also pretty sweet.

It looks really good, like Terrence Malik decided to direct a slasher film. The only shortcoming is the horror at the end of it wasn't very gory. But, oh, that sex scene. Man, that chick was hot. Put a serious rocket in my pocket.
