Paul W.S. Anderson Unspools The Reel

29 November 2011 1:34 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Leading independent studio Entertainment One (eOne) has joined forces with the dynamic and innovative team of Paul W.S. Anderson and Jeremy Bolt to develop a new one-hour psychological thriller series for television, The Reel. The series spec was brought to eOne by talented first-time writer, Adam D'Alba.

In this "found footage" series, a young documentarian searches for evidence of the supernatural. His first case concerns the mysterious last days of two teenagers and a serial killer, known as the Mirror Mask Killer, who uses various forms of psychological torment to exact bloody vengeance on its victims. The Reel combines supernatural shocks in a case-per-week format that leads viewers through a season long mystery.

"Adam D'Alba's vision for the show and the opportunity to partner with Anderson and Bolt, made it impossible not to jump on board this project" said Noreen Halpern, President Dramatic Programming, eOne Television. "We're thrilled to be »

Director Paul W.S. Anderson Finds Footage on The Reel

Okay. Color us absolutely stymied. If there's one thing that Paul W. S. Anderson's shooting style does not lend itself to, it's the very subdued cinéma vérité style found footage approach. Still, who could blame him for trying to get in on the craze?

Australian Comedian Jim Jeffries Lands Legit Pilot at FX

12 October 2011 10:16 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

With Louis Ck, one of the finest comedians working today, finding success with his fantastic series Louie on FX, another great comedian is looking to follow in his footsteps. Deadline has word that the cable network has just given the greenlight to a pilot called Legit, a potential new series starring Australian comedian Jim Jeffries. The show will follow a misanthrope (Jeffries) trying to go legit. Apparently the comedian had a show in development at Comedy Central last year about his life in the United States but that never got off the ground. Peter O'Fallon, a TV director and producer behind such series as The Riches and House M.D. will executive produce the new series. Jeffries' brash, vulgar and even bleak comedic stylings are along the same lines of honesty and grittiness of Louis Ck, so I think this new series will fit in perfectly on FX. The network has »

TV stars to follow on Tumblr: Zooey Deschanel, Eliza Dushku, Dianna Agron and more

7 October 2011 3:42 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Tumblr is gaining momentum behind Facebook and Twitter as a social platform for TV stars to connect with their fans. Users can easily share everything from videos, photos, animated gifs and wordy blog posts in as much time as it takes to publish a tweet or a mobile upload.

And while Twitter is dominated by easily-searchable, competing verified accounts, the celebrity influence on Tumblr is much different (although Lady Gaga's Tumblr is still hugely popular, just like her Facebook page and Twitter account). Tumblr-ified television stars often engage their fans in a more visual and irreverent manner, which in many cases allows celebrities to illustrate their passions and project the unconventional -- and the truly personal -- details of their lives.

For both seasoned Tumblr users and those curious about what goes on in the Tumblverse, here -- in no particular order -- are 16 of the best television stars »

Justified Series 2 DVD Review

10 August 2011 2:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The trend for absorbing, character-centric drama from over the pond continues as the second series of acclaimed Us cop show, Justified, is released on DVD in the UK.

With a lead character extracted from two novels and a short story by celebrated author Elmore Leonard (who is credited as one of the Executive Producers of the series), Timothy Olyphant brings him vividly to life in his portrayal of laconic lawman, Raylan Givens. In the first episode of season one, Givens is involved in the unapologetic and “justified” shooting of a violent fugitive in his jurisdiction in Miami. Following this, and in an attempt to quell any angry repercussions, the Deputy U.S. Marshall is reassigned to Lexington, Kentucky – a district which includes his hometown of Harlan. A rural mining area, it’s a place which happens to breed a strong criminal faction, many of whom are familiar to Givens from »

Brian Kirk In Talks To Direct Thor 2

4 August 2011 8:48 PM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Marvel is looking to TV for a director on Thor 2.Variety reports that Brian Kirk is currently in talks to direct the sequel to this summer's hit movie, Marvel no doubt drawn in by his work on both Boardwalk Empire and Game Of Thrones. And given that Kirk's three episodes of Game Of Thrones include two of my favorites - those being Lord Snow and Cripples, Bastards And Broken Things - I have no issue with that at all. Looking back farther in his filmography and seeing episodes of Dexter, Idris Elba starring UK hit Luther, The Tudors, The Riches and about half of League Of Gentlemen alumni project Funland certainly doesn't hurt, either. This strikes me as an uncommonly savvy move by Marvel. The Firm Adds Molly Parker In New Bid For Awesomeness

The soon-to-be show, The Firm, is continuing to roll out info, and the latest is that Molly Parker will join the show as Abby McDeere, wife of the (I suppose) main attraction, Mitchell McDeere, played by Josh Lucas. While not all that much is known about the show, except that it is somehow the continuing story, ten years later, we know that we're aiming at some pretty cool names - see below - including Juliette Lewis.

With the addition of Molly Parker, the show instantly changes into something I'm going to have to watch. Star of some of the best, and weirdest, indie films around, Parker is a stunning actress, in every possible sense.

I know there are a lot of people excited for the show, but I know there are many others who have already dismissed it. It's time to rethink our positions. »

What do you think of Michelle Collins's accent in Coronation Street?

22 June 2011 7:49 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Corrie's newest character has baffled viewers with her accent. Which other actors are guilty of this crime?

• Will Michelle Collins fit in?

She may have one of the least convincing Mancunian accents since Daphne Moon in Frasier but Michelle Collins, newly arrived in Coronation Street, is not alone. Viewers might question her northern tones – yesterday even Freddie Flintoff waded into the fray – but Weatherfield is home to a number of accents that prove more often distracting than engaging. Carla Connor's unwieldy vowels are often jarring, while Audrey Roberts's exaggerated nasally twang is consistently preposterous. Ena Sharples must be spinning in her grave.

But at least they go for it. And this is important: if the actor does not truly believe in their accent, it's difficult for the audience to believe in it. And if they're concentrating so hard on getting the accent right, it makes it difficult »

Two very popular british talents are coming together to star in a film currently being shopped at Cannes about two people who nick other identities in an attempt to change their lives for the better. THR report that Colin Firth, fresh from his Oscar win and Emily Blunt, fresh from, eh, Gulliver's Travels, are both signed on in a film that sounds a bit like that tv show The Riches with Eddie Izzard - and that was amazing. Both of them will play people who break into houses to steal identities, and it'll be the first film by Dante Ariola, who has up to now only done adverts. Sounds like a good setup for these two - they're both very funny when given the right material, especially Blunt. Definitely looks like it'll be one to watch....... Katie Leclerc has just landed her first series starring role, but already, she shares something with "Glee"-ful Emmy and Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth.

Both have Meniere's disease, an inner-ear disorder that impacts the person's balance and hearing ... and can worsen over time, with severe hearing loss a possible outcome. In Leclerc's case, the condition is informing her part as a deaf teen who's one of two people "Switched at Birth" on the ABC Family drama by that name that premieres Monday, June 6.

"I'm just now hearing about people I have looked up to who also have Meniere's," Leclerc tells Zap2it in a clear, steady voice that doesn't indicate the disease at all. "Heather Locklear has it. I had no idea. It's very unpredictable, and a lot of people are misdiagnosed because the symptoms are so tricky. The makeup artist on our set has Meniere's as well, so it's »
