Last year I became interested in the American revolution after taking an American history class. I bought a book on the revolution and later this documentary. It's a really good summery of the main events played out with actors like many other history channel documentaries. It often shows the same scenes more than once, but this is to be expected since most history channel documentaries do this. The maps detailed maps of battles and the surrounding geography helps you put the battles together in your head easily. The actors are (for the most part) very similar to the paintings showed. The painting are another cool source, it gives you plenty of paintings of events. My only complaints are One, They left out some key events in the war that could have easily been added in, like the invasion of Canada (in 1775), the Battle of Valcour Island (a 1776 naval battle that took place on lake Champlain, north of Ticonderoga and Crown Point) and the Battle of Princeton (a battle in 1777 in New Jersey, where Washington rode into battle to rally his troops, turning a defeat into victory). none of these battles are mentioned and all very important. It mentions the evacuation of Fort Ticonderoga but, not the Invasion of Canada and Valcour island that came before it. The Battle of Princeton was also an iconic moment for Washington as a commander. They mention Gates plan to invade Canada in 1778 but fail to even state that this was once tried in the beginning of the war. Now I understand that they have limited time, but these were important events and there were many other interesting facts and battles that were left out. Again I understand they only have so much time but this leads to my second complaint. two, the last two episodes seem to just be trying to waste time and go over events that were already seen. These last two episodes are not anything new and useless. Instead of trying to waste time with these pointless episodes they could have gone more into detail.Aside from the events they missed the documentary has good material about the battles and events. Its worth seeing if your into the revolutionary war, or history in general.
