Ichi rittoru no namida (1 litre of tears)
This Japanese dorama is about a girl who was diagnosed with a disease
called Spinocerebellar Degeneration when she was 15 years old, and was
able to continue her life until her death at the age of 25 years old.
The plot is based on the true story of a Japanese girl named Kito Aya,
who had the same disease. She kept writing in her diary to remember her
experiences until she could no longer hold a pen. Aya simply wished to
live until the end of her life, and the purpose of writing in the diary
was to remind herself to not give up. She shed tears many times, at the
same time encompassed by the rich love and support from her family,
friends, and boyfriend. Her diary "1 Litre of Tears" was published
after her death, because of its inspiring and courageous message of,
"Just being alive is such a lovely and wonderful thing." So far, over
18,000,000 copies of her diary have been sold.
This J-dorama really made me cry at least 2 liters of tears! I have not
for a long time seen anything this sad. Erika Sawajiri made a great
personification of Aya. Truly touching story, and the music is
wonderful. 11 episodes full of true feelings, love, sadness and family
values. I strongly recommend this drama series to everyone!

i agree with the previous comment. i have not seen anything so sad for
a long time. i'm not a guy who is really into Japanese drama/movie. but
this show really changed my mind. i have to take back my words for my
serious doubt about the acting. the movie carries a heart-warming
message about appreciating every moments of our lives. Aya's only wish
was "to live." By carefully depicting Aya's earnest desire to live, and
the love of her family, friends, and lover. The drama, wishes to
deliver her simple but strong message: "Just being alive is such a
lovely and wonderful thing."
everyone, especially Erika Sawajiri and her family's acting was superb.
i have to admit i cried a lot of times during the show. absolutely a
touching Japanese drama series that should not be missed by anyone.
go watch it!

1 litre of tears is a very touching story about a young girls struggle
with a very cruel disease. A disease which takes away all the things
she loves, one by one.
As Aya-chan struggles, all people around her are struggling with her.
Share the pain, sadness, but also love and joy with aya's family.
This dorama show is something great, it has a huge impact on every
living soul, also and more important it is the legacy and dream of a
young girl. With not only the book 1 litre of tears , bases on aya's
diaries, but also this dorama show, aya's dream is fulfilled and will
continue to live on.
domo arigatou aya-chan, for you will not be forgotten.
one tip for people who are going to watch this show: please have
tissues next to you this show is 100% tears guaranteed

This is a movie for people who do not appreciate life. In our pursuit
of happiness, we forget simple things in life. This movie will remind
us that what makes life worth living is our simple tasks and activities
in our daily living. We don't have to grasp our widest dream to enjoy
our life. After I have watched this movie, I go to gym every day just
to enjoy running and weight lifting. Knowing that one day I would be
old enough that my age will prevent me from doing things I am capable
of now. Just like Aya, she soon lost her abilities to do things she
used to do. The different is that time comes quick on her. But surely,
her life reflects our life that we are getting older everyday. This is
the movie which has changed how I look at life.

first of all i......in case you guys didn't know, this one is th MOVIE
version of 1 Litre of Tears, NOT the TV series one!!! The one with
Erika is the TV series which they filmed at 2005,after the released of
the MOVIE version(2004),and this one is the the MOVIE website... don't
mess up
I think Asae Oeshi done a wonderful job by doing this role, she acts
much better than the TV drama one. She may not pretty as Erika but she
sure can act. They add a lot of conflicts and that "boyfriend" who
didn't exist in the reality. This movie is more based on the reality, and
all the acting are more realistic.
The TV series version is great (no idea about the Movie), the pace of
story in series is perfect, and the performance of actors and actresses
are superb. Above all the story is the simply amazing.
This story certainly changes our view of life, and makes us realize
that 'u don't know what u have till its gone'. It inspires us to enjoy
our life and become a useful person.
Indeed a gr8 movie !!!
Talking about Erika, (oh my god!) she has the best smile of the world.
She makes us smile when she smiles, and makes us cry when she cries.

Just to clear things up, this is the FILM "1 Litre of Tears", not the
drama starring Sawajiri Erika. I honestly find it a pity that the drama
is so well-known, yet the film isn't. Not that the drama wasn't great -
I just think the film was much better. Onishi completely delved into
the role and delivered an outstanding performance. Just watching her
struggle to move around made me cry like crazy.
To be perfectly frank, I didn't pay much attention to much of the
film's elements - camera, lighting, setting. I don't think that's a bad
thing, really; it just goes to show how powerful the actors'
performances were, so much so it becomes all you care about. The
casting was perfect! I don't think the film would have had as much of
an impact if Sawajiri were cast in Kito Aya's role here. The music was
perfect, pacing perfect, character build-up perfect..... I don't know,
I can't really find much fault with the film.
Honestly. This WILL make you cry a litre of tears.
