Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Renewed for Season 5 at ABC
Marvel-ous news for patient Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans: ABC has renewed the ratings-challenged but creatively re-energized series for Season 5, ending many months of speculation about its future.

Related2017 Renewal Scorecard: What’s Coming Back? What’s Getting Cancelled? What’s on the Bubble?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season has averaged 2.4 million weekly total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating, down 30 and 40 percent from Season 3. Among ABC dramas, it equals Quantico, The Catch and died-on-the-vine Conviction in the demo, and outperforms short-lived freshman Time After Time and Season 3 of American Crime.

‘Sleepy Hollow, ‘The Catch,’ ‘The Great Indoors’: Which Bubble Shows Will Be Canceled?
Network executives are currently hard at work evaluating new programming for the 2017-2018 television season, but pilots aren’t the only projects that require decisions. Veteran shows are also up in the air and possibly on the chopping block.

Many returning series have already been renewed, but there is still a healthy portion of shows still on the bubble. Fox’s “Pitch,” NBC’s “Powerless” and “Emerald City” have kicked off the TV industry’s annual blood bath — so which shows will follow?

Though the majority of the final decisions won’t come until just before the week of May 15 for Upfronts, Variety has the early buzz from industry insiders.

TV Review: ABC’s ‘Notorious’ and ‘Conviction’

TV Review: ABC’s ‘Notorious’ and ‘Conviction’
It’s remarkable how interchangeable “Notorious” and “Conviction” are. Hayley Atwell is in one, and Piper Perabo leads the other, but you’d be forgiven for confusing the lesser details, like which one is a take on Larry King or has a presidential campaign subplot. Both are steamy procedurals that combine legal thriller with media circus, playing up high-profile clients, sensational crimes, and the sexy people involved. Both are led by beautiful white women, making the most of their business formal wardrobes in expensive high heels and blazers. Both women have smoldering sexual tension with a man — the second-billed actor — that crosses both personal and professional boundaries, while also throwing off sexual tension that tries very hard to light the screen on fire (and occasionally succeeds).

And, most importantly, both read as messy, incomplete dramas that appear to be blatant attempts to rework the “Scandal” template with a few different bells and whistles. The

TV Cancellations: ‘Agent Carter’ Killed, but ‘Good Wife’s’ New Life Offers Hope

TV Cancellations: ‘Agent Carter’ Killed, but ‘Good Wife’s’ New Life Offers Hope
It’s tough to love TV, and there’s no tougher time than late spring, when the several waves of broadcast network cancellations herald the arrival of Upfronts. I have a few thoughts on the most recent round of TV cancellations, spinoffs and renewals:

Among the cancellations announced in recent days: “The Grinder,” “Grandfathered,” “Galavant,” “The Family,” “Bordertown,” “Second Chance,” “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” “Nashville,” “Castle” and “Containment.” For me, the toughest losses were “Agent Carter” and “The Grinder.” More on the former in a moment, but I have a few thoughts on the latter. “The Grinder” was something of an odd duck, and I do get that it was a niche show (hence its low ratings and Fox’s desire to axe it). But given that it was a knowledgeable and meta-obsessed show that lovingly mocked TV cliches, that particular niche was designed to appeal to TV nerds like me.

The cast of Angel: 10 years on

  • Den of Geek
Feature Sarah Dobbs 5 Mar 2014 - 07:00

Sarah digs into the post-Angel careers of David Boreanaz, Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, Charisma Carpenter and more...

It’s been about a decade since the last episode of Angel, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off series about the vampire with a soul, aired. The final episode of season five, Not Fade Away, first appeared on Us television screens on 19 May 2004. That seems simultaneously like a very long time ago, and not very long ago at all, because time is vast and human brains are small and fallible, but it’s safe to say that in TV years, it’s a pretty long goddamned time.

The men and women behind the characters we used to spend one night a week with have gone on to other things – some bigger and better, others kind of rubbish – and unless you’re a particularly obsessive superfan, you
