‘Chips’ Star Jessica McNamee on Dax Shepard’s Surprising ‘Serious’ Side (Video)

24 March 2017 5:56 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Australian actress Jessica McNamee has no trace of an accent in Friday’s police comedy romp “Chips,” where she plays an all-American highway patrol officer. She had high praise for Dax Shepard, who made his directorial debut on the project as well as starring and writing the script. “He wore quite a few hats,” McNamee said. “He was a bit more serious, I think, than in his regular life.” The star of USA’s “Sirens” has quite a few impressive projects booked in addition to the Friday release from Warner Bros. Review: CHiPs

24 March 2017 8:32 AM, PDT | | See recent JoBlo news »

Plot: After a string of armored car robberies point to the California Highway Patrol, an FBI agent (Michael Pena) goes undercover among their ranks, where he’s paired with an inept rookie (Dax Shepard). Review: It takes a sure hand to successfully mix genres. If the recipe is off, the resulting film can seem schizophrenic, and that’s certainly the case with Dax Shepard’s Chips. A... Read More »

CHiPs (2017) review

24 March 2017 8:16 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Michael Pena co-stars in an action-comedy flick based on the 70s TV show, CHiPs. A must see? Well, no...

There are some stories that deserve to be told and retold - handed down through generation after generation, from campfire tales through to the era of TV and cinema and far beyond. Whether they're related in the pages of a book or projected on a movie screen, these stories speak to the essence of what makes us human: our histories, our friendships, our fears and desires. CHiPs, based on the 70s TV show about two motorcycle cops in California, is not one of those stories.

CHiPS Review

24 March 2017 3:48 AM, PDT | | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Stefan Pape

Even some of the more engaging action comedy capers have to make a compromise, as the success rate in establishing a strong narrative while remaining consistently funny is a a hurdle many a filmmaker has stumbled on. Some thrive in their farcicality and the story becomes something of a side-note, while in others, it’s the comedy that takes precedence, with the narrative working as a mere vehicle for the humour. Dax Shepard’s CHiPS is a rare case, though – for it succeeds in neither.

Shepard plays Jon Baker, a newly enforced member of the Chp (California Highway Patrol) wanting to make his mark, and impress his wife (Kristen Bell) in a bid to save their dying marriage. Threatened with being fired if he doesn’t file within the top bracket of performers, he’s unenthused when meeting his partner, undercover FBI agent Frank Poncherello (Michael Pena »

Movie Review – Chips (2017)

24 March 2017 3:05 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Chips, 2017.

Written and Directed by Dax Shepard.

Starring Dax Shepard, Michael Pena, Jessica McNamee, Kristen Bell, Ryan Hansen, Vincent D’Onofrio, Adam Brody, Maya Rudolph, Ben Falcone, Justin Chatwin, Rosa Salazar, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Jane Kaczmarek.

A rookie officer is teamed with a hardened pro at the California Highway Patrol, though the newbie soon learns his partner is really an undercover Fed investigating a heist that may involve some crooked cops.

Chips opens with a message explaining to viewers that the actual California Highway Patrol is not associated with this reboot of the semi-popular television series (it ran throughout the 70s and 80s), and to be honest, why would they want to? This comedy is straight-up lowest common denominator trash that is agonizing torture to sit through for 100 minutes. Dax Shepard is responsible for producing, writing, directing, and starring (as Jon Baker) in this new take on the property, »

Kristen Bell Shares Dax Shepard’s Hilarious Review of ‘Hamilton’ After Seeing the Musical for the First Time

24 March 2017 1:05 AM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Though his wife voices Princess Anna in Frozen, Dax Shepard isn’t the biggest fan of Broadway musicals. But that didn’t stop the CHiPs star from accompanying his love, Kristen Bell, to her first viewing of the hit show, Hamilton.

The couple left their two kids, Delta and Lincoln, at home for the fun date night, which Bell captured on her Instagram.

“Mommy and Daddy's night out!!!! #hamilton the musical is gonna bring the party! My excitement cannot be contained and full disclosure I cried during the opening number,” Bell captioned one clip.

In the video, the actress shows herself and her hubby in their seats at the Richard Rodgers Theater in NYC.

“I’ve got chocolate-covered blueberries and the cutest man in town!” Bell said.

“Where? Where?” Shepard asked, jokingly looking around.

‘Chips’ Is Latest Studio Bro Comedy Crawling With Homophobic ‘Gay Panic’ Jokes

23 March 2017 4:56 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Warner Bros.’ reboot of the TV series “CHiPs” is the latest mainstream Hollywood film roiling with “gay panic,” or scenes where straight characters are distressed by social or sexual situations involving Lgbtq people. The buddy comedy — set amid the culture of a Southern California police force — seems to endlessly dredge up scenarios where men are confronted with the naked bodies, perceived masculinity and potential desire for other men. Dax Shepard and Michael Pena star as motorcycle cop partners with conflicting personalities: Shepard’s Jon Baker is a sensitive, lean-muscled former pro biker looking for a new career. Pena’s Frank “Ponch” Poncherello is a hyper-masculine, »

'Beauty and the Beast' to Repeat at #1 Over 'Power Rangers', 'Life' and 'CHiPs'

23 March 2017 1:36 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent news »

As has been the case over the last three weekends, this weekend is looking to outperform last year and, once again, by a significant margin. The big story, of course, is Disney's Beauty and the Beast as it continues to blow the doors off, becoming one of the fastest films to top $200 million at the domestic box office and, by the end of this weekend, will have topped $300 million in just ten days of release. In addition to Beauty and the Beast's second weekend, three new wide releases make their debut including Lionsgate's Power Rangers, Sony's R-rated sci-fi Life and WB's R-rated comedy CHiPs, all of which will have varying degrees of success as the top twelve should top a combined $180 million, making it the second largest weekend of the year. As of Wednesday, Disney's Beauty and the Beast has brought in $217.6 million domestically and another $244.3 million internationally. This »

Why Kristen Bell Didn’t Pump Breast Milk ‘for a Full Day’ While Filming CHiPs: ‘It Was My Physical Sacrifice’

Kristen Bell may not have performed death-defying stunts for her new role in husband Dax Shepard‘s movie CHiPs — as his character’s wife, fittingly — but she did commit to the part in one very physical way.

“I was like, ‘My craft deserves it. I gotta do it. I’m a serious actor,’ ” Bell told Seth Meyers Wednesday evening. “I was breastfeeding at the time. I wanted my character to have an aggressive boob job, like it’s the only thing you can think about when you see someone.”

‘Chips’ Review: Dax Shepard’s 1970’s TV Reboot Is Offensive and Awful

23 March 2017 10:02 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

It’s hard to pinpoint when Dax Shepard’s “Chips” takes a sharp turn into indefensibly racist humor, but one place to start would be a passing reference to Michael Peña as “the little brown one.” It’s not the only cringe-worthy moment.

It may be unfair to pigeonhole Shepard as endorsing ugly stereotypes, even if he did write, produce, and direct a movie that derives 90 percent of its humor from gay jokes, race jokes, and punchlines about attractiveness that basically amount to a beta version of the pre-Facebook website “Hot or Not.” But they’re all there, in this overblown and completely baffling adaptation of a 1970’s TV series that literally nobody asked for.

Dax Shepard is taking all sorts of steps to secure his future (if he makes it there). After the CHiPs actor got bumped from the Wednesday spot on Late Night With Seth Meyers in favor of a much bigger star (his wife, Kristen Bell), the actress used her time on the show to talk about the couple's interesting dynamic. While chatting with Seth about her recent interview with Dateline's Keith Morrison, Kristen revealed that she actually really needed to talk to him because of something suspicious Dax did on her phone. "My husband googled from my phone, as a prank, 'How do I get away with murdering my husband?'" Seth then asked, "What's the prank though?" to which she responded, "That I'm on some watch list I guess." She then said she asked Keith how much trouble she might be in, and he broke the news to her: "quite a bit. »

Box Office: ‘Power Rangers’ No Match for ‘Beauty and the Beast’

22 March 2017 2:53 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Lionsgate has big ambitions for “Power Rangers,” its reboot of the popular 1990’s television show about a group of teenage warriors. A year before the movie even hit theaters, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer predicted that there could be as many as seven Mighty Morphin’ adventures, and producer Haim Saban recently said that the filmmakers have a “six story arc” all sketched out for the youthful heroes.

Now, all the movie has to do is be a hit, preferably of the blockbuster variety. This weekend, Lionsgate will find out if it picked the right slice of nostalgia to dust off. “Power Rangers” will open across 3,693 North American locations, where it is expected to pull in more than $30 million. That’s a respectable result, but given its $100 million budget and the millions spent on hawking and distributing the film, “Power Rangers” will have to be a big hit globally in order to justify more sequels. »

Actor Michael Pena has confirmed that he will be returning to the McU for Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Stealing plenty a scene during the first Ant-Man film back in 2015, actor Michael Pena, after a bit of confusion, has confirmed he will indeed be returning to the role of Luis for the sequel.

Pena initially seemed unsure about whether he would be taking up the role again during a recent interview with Collider, saying, “No, No. I haven’t gotten the phone call yet. I don’t know if I’m gonna get the phone call. Who knows?”

However, he has now clarified that he will be back in the mix during a red carpet Lrm interview for his latest movie Chips: “So, I’m doing Extinction next, that’s a Universal movie. And then I’m doing Ant-Man Part 2”.

Ant-Man And The Wasp Will Herald The Return Of Michael Peña’s Fast-Talking Luis After All

22 March 2017 9:01 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Earlier this week, it was reported that CHIPs star Michael Peña had been left in the dark about Ant-Man and the Wasp, thereby casting doubt on whether his fast-talking Luis will have a role to play in Marvel’s 2018 sequel.

Considering that Pena’s cunning crook was arguably one of, if not the best supporting character in Peyton Reed’s hit original, Marvel fans were aghast. But thankfully, Peña has now walked back his comments regarding Ant-Man 2 to confirm that Luis will return after all. Whether the actor’s original statement was simply a faux pas or a breakdown in communication is anyone’s guess, but while chatting to Lrm (via Screen Rant) about his upcoming role in the R-rated CHIPs reboot, Michael Peña put any and all rumors to bed.

Next on Peña’s plate is the alien invasion movie Extinction, which is coming by way of Universal »
