First of all, let me start by saying that where I come from mook is not a name someone would give themselves voluntarily. That being said, comedy of this ilk does attempt to harken back to a different time but its influences are as blatant as the sun in August. Even the most uninitiated in the "old school" of comedy can easily recognize the derivative nature of this short. The Marx Brothers style of characterization, the exaggerated situations of the classic screwball comedies and even the one straight man/two clueless characters dynamic which seems lifted directly from The Three Stooges. There is a reason that this style of comedy did not transition into the modern age, it simply wasn't that funny. Please don't get me wrong, The Marx Brothers et al. were all talented performers. But The Marx Brothers these guys ain't. They display neither the social commentary of early Marx Brothers nor the timing of the Stooges, performers who actually do display "comedic synchronicity". However, the technical aspects of this particular short were very well carried out, particularly in the editing and sound recording department. I think the overall professional look that it maintains is responsible for its award winning status, surely not its content.
