Not so bad coming from SyFy, but less than perfect
18 August 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Part of me was hoping it would be better than the (mostly) usual SyFy fodder, but I wasn't expecting too much as it seemed generic and had quite a silly title. Actually it was a little better than I expected, it has a lot of problems but is nowhere near SyFy's worst. On the most part it is well made with some neat photography and atmospheric, the ravens do exude menace, there are some tense, suspenseful moments that already elevates it above most SyFy output and the acting, with Rod Taylor a pleasure to see, better than average. On the other hand, the special effects are shoddy, which was what I meant from on the most part. The story is as generic as it sounded, and also quite predictable with the exciting parts being with the ravens and the rest being uninteresting exposition. The ending is both contrived and clichéd, both of which I generally dislike when it comes to movies. The dialogue has some wit, but mostly it is rather trite, while the characters are not developed enough to make us empathise with them, the Sheriff cliché has also been done before and better. All in all, less than perfect but somewhat tolerable thanks to the ravens, some good scenes with them and how the film is technically good. 4/10 Bethany Cox
