Dancing Dolls of Burlesque was an interesting revue of various strippers
tavm20 October 2015
This was another burlesque short I found on a DVD full of them as well as a couple of features showcasing many dancers either about to strip half-naked or pretty much there with what was considered provocative moves at the time of filming. All the dance numbers seemed a bit short to me though they seemed pretty entertaining for the brief time they had. None of them were what I consider arousing but I'm sure many a red-blooded male at the time might have their blood boil just looking at all the fine-looking women on display here. Like I said, they're half-naked so no nudity here. But this definitely wasn't something you'd show at a family theatre, either. So on that note, Dancing Dolls for Burlesque is worth a look for anyone interested in that sort of thing.

Dancing Dolls of Burlesque (1946)

** (out of 4)

This here is one of six shorts including on the DVD release of Hollywood BURLESQUE/PEEK-A-BOO from Something Weird Video. The burlesque genre is certainly one that people are going to love or hate. For me, I tend to lean more towards the hate aspect but there's no question that these films have an interesting history and those seeking out at-one-time-dirty entertainment might find them of interest.

Jean King, Patty Long, Sunny Ray, Jill LaRay are the four ladies who appear in this 7-minute short. I guess if you've seen one burlesque movie then you've pretty much seen them all because it seems all of them features the same bad dancing, bad lighting and feature no real erotic material. Out of the four ladies I'd say it's probably Sunny Ray who does the best routine but she's also got the best name so you've got to give her some credit for that. Overall the dances were rather boring and even at seven-minutes I think some might have their finger on the fast-forward button.
