Storyline

The scene is winter time, around the Holiday season. The child, who has never tasted the joys of life, passes a toy shop, where a large doll is displayed in the window. It fascinates and inspires her. She passes on, her childish fancy aroused by the beautiful face and the wonderful waxen features, which linger with her through her dreams. Finally the day comes when the doll is no more. Inside, a richly clad woman, leading a little child, rushes past the waif and into her carriage, leaves the child like one suddenly bereft of all that has made life worth living. Little Match Seller, The (1912)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Early adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's story with direction by Joseph Sullivan. Most probably know this story so I won't bore you with a plot detail but if you are a fan of the story then this is a must see. I was really surprised at how touching this short 3-minute film was and the special effects were very nice as well.

You can find this film on countless public domain releases and you can also find it online at various video forums. It's certainly worth you checking out.
