Gordon Ramsay isn't always the blustery, cuss-prone figure that he cuts on such programs as Hell's Kitchen. In fact, on series like The F Word and Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, both of which air on BBC America, Ramsay allows his softer side to come through: calm, supportive, and empathetic. He offers a particular brand of tough love on his less showman-esque series that doesn't really come through amid the stageyness of Fox's Hell's Kitchen. Which isn't to say that he doesn't scream to the high heavens. Because he does, especially when he can't get through the thick skull of one of the struggling restaurateurs he's attempting to save from financial ruin, as on Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, which returns to BBC America beginning tonight with two new episodes. Despite offering a significantly shorter season than the previous entries in Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (the two episodes were originally transmitted as Great British Nightmare »

UK section to host full-length episodes of Peep Show, Hollyoaks and other shows from providers including Channel 4 and ITN
YouTube has launched a new shows section for UK users as it taps into rising online demand for full-length television programmes.
The new section provides the first shows from a landmark deal with Channel 4 announced last month and will include full-length episodes of Peep Show, Hollyoaks, Gordon Ramsay's F Word and Jamie at Home. Shows from other media partners include Dead Ringers, ITN News and Baywatch.
At launch, YouTube is posting around 5,000 videos, of which almost 4,000 are full-length programmes, from more than 60 partners. YouTube said it "expects this to significantly increase in the coming months" and the full range of Channel 4 shows will be available in early 2010.
For established broadcasters, including Channel 4, partnering with YouTube is a response to the trend of both viewers and advertisers leaving television channels for the internet. »

Q: I'm curious about Project Runway's Christopher Straub. The ring he wears suggests he has a husband / partner / significant other. What details might you know on this? Every time Heidi had him in tears, I found myself strongly torn between wanting to give him a hug and going all Cher on him. – LgH, Houston, TX, Usw, Earth
A: “I am married!” Straub tells the Flying Monkey. “Well, not legally, but Ronnie and I had a commitment ceremony two-and-a-half years ago. We've been together for over five years. He's a little scientist, and we really don't understand what each other does for a living.”
I asked what the two of them do for fun. “We like to travel, watch TV – I like reality shows and he »

The week-long series, which follows the lives of those caught in a car pileup on the A12, dropped 1.2m since yesterday's episode, logging 6.32m (26.5%) at 9pm. It was, however, the most-watched programme during the 9pm hour. Yesterday's opener drew a respectable 7.5m (30.4%). Channel 4's second helping of Gordon Ramsay's F Word topped its first week figures, drawing 1.86m (7.8%) compared to last Tuesday's 1.77m (7.4%). Over on the BBC, Around The World In 80 Days brought in 3.88m (16.3%), while Horizon and CSI Miami took 1.69m (7.1%) and 1.99m (8.3%) on BBC Two and (more) »

People are talking about precisely who Colin Firth wants to be in bed with.
Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear. Yes, we're serious.
Above, you can see the one sheet for Tom Ford's A Single Man, which more than one blog is crying about the marketing being de-gayed. And not just gay blogs, because indieWIRE says the new trailer has also been de-gayed. It's not fresh news right now, but I'd like to thank reader Darrien for pointing out that Jan Moir was named Bigot Of the Year by Stonewall in the U.K. after a last minute nomination for her hateful articles about Boyzone singer Stephen Gately. Adam Lambert was profiled by the L.A. Times yesterday and says he's more interested in being Beyonce than Daughtry. There are a stack of really good, funny »

Katie Price has said that she is not high maintenance. The glamour model made the claim during the recording of a new series of Channel 4's cookery program The F Word, The Sun reports. Price told host Gordon Ramsay: "I'm not high maintenance, believe it or not." Ramsay responded: "Katie Price, excuse me? That's like me saying I'm a vegetarian!" Price said: (more) »

Gordon Ramsay has reportedly revealed how he underwent a painful beauty treatment to have the deep grooves on his chin filled. The F Word host admitted that he was advised to undergo the surgery by Simon Cowell after his recent success in the Us. He told Radio Times: "My mother said they were smile lines. I could deal with that at 21, but not at 42. Simon Cowell suggested that now I'm a success in America, I should do something. So I had a filler put under the deep crevices. It hurt." (more) »

Fans of Gordon Ramsay are certainly familiar with Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, but The F Word hasn't gotten a lot of attention in the U.S., despite airing on BBCAmerica. While I have a special fondness for Kitchen Nightmares, The F Word is probably the next most entertaining of Ramsay's shows. It's a very different sort of ballgame in the F Word restaurant, and there's a lot less shouting, and a lot more culinary fun. The show is a real smorgasbord of entertainment avenues, with celebrity guests facing off with Gordon in recipe challenges, hopeful chefs trying to prove their worth in Gordon's kitchen, food knowledge snippets, and much more. Competing chefs square off in Gordon's The F Word restaurant, where diners only pay if they like their food, and celebrities from just about anywhere put their skills to the ultimate test. »

If you have ever seen Gordon Ramsay's BBC America show The F Word, then you know that the angriest chef in the biz has a soft side for his beloved pigs and amateur cooks. But something about that transcontinental flight must put a bee in his bonnet because the contestants on Hell's Kitchen, starting its sixth season tonight, subject themselves to the worst working conditions imaginable for a shot at a chef job. Last time we checked, sending a resume and cover letter results in less emotional scars. »

The intrepid director went to school in Dorset, England, before studying Anthropology at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies. Now is a very good time to be a television-loving foodie, with several networks other than stalwarts Food Network or PBS devoting air time to culinary-themed programming. In fact, it's safe to say that cuisine as a whole has entered the general zeitgeist in a way that it couldn't really have done before the public's embrace of reality programming. But there's a rather large caveat: not all food programming is equal. While television offers a bountiful cornucopia of culinary series, there's still a large difference in the quality of these programs, not to mention a staggering range of subjects being covered. There are docusoaps that focus on cake-makers, competition series pitting chefs against each other, old fashioned cook-offs, food-focused travel series, and product spotlights. While I'd never be able to offer up a comprehensive discussion of all of these series (they are too numerous to even contemplate as a whole »

I'm a huge admirer of Gordon Ramsay's F Word, the kitchen-based series from the foul-mouthed Gordon Ramsay, who has become has much a reality TV staple here in the States as he is in the UK. I'm even more pleased that BBC America, which will launch the fourth season of F Word tonight, is returning this provocative and compelling series to primetime, where it ought to be after stripping the third season weekdays in daytime. Unlike, say, Hell's Kitchen, which is really more about showmanship and contestant humiliation than, say, culinary matters, the emphasis here is firmly on food. After all, that's the f-word of the title. I had the chance to watch the first three episodes of Season Four of F Word and was once again completely sucked into Ramsay's kitchen world. The fourth season of F Word finds the chef/author on a mission to transform people's beliefs »
