"It seemed like something somebody would make up," author Nancy Jo Sales says on the phone from her New York home. "If you had pitched this as a movie, nobody would've bought it. It would've been too unbelievable." But the story of a bunch of young suburbanites who burglarized a string of celebrity homes in 2008 and '09 did happen. And somebody did buy it — director Sofia Coppola, whose upcoming film "The Bling Ring" (out June 14) is inspired by the Hollywood crime spree. It's also the subject of Sales' new book, likewise titled "The Bling Ring."
Coppola hired Sales as a consultant on the film after optioning her 2010 Vanity Fair article, "The Suspects Wore Louboutins." Realizing she had enough material on the case for a book, Sales started writing "The Bling Ring" last summer. It hits bookstores next week.

Cannes invariably offers the opportunity to see some weird and wonderful projects that might not otherwise grab the attention, and Roberto Minervi’s neo-realist documentary style Stop The Pounding Heart is one such film. Following a young girl (Sara Carlson) in a deeply religious territory of Texas, the film seeks to offer a glaringly realistic portrayal of her struggles with lust and religion, when she meets a trainee rodeo rider from a neighbouring family (Colby Trichell) and becomes immediately drawn to him.
This story plays out over the backdrop of Sara’s family life, showing her familial duties, and the tasks required of her on the family goat farm, as well as the fervent religious dedication of her family, and how that impacts on her individuality and the various relationships between characters.

It was announced last week that MTV is developing on a TV series based on the mid-90s slasher genre spoof Scream. No doubt being bombarded with questions from fans, the movie's creator and director spoke out on Twitter last night about his involvement:
"A lot of you have asked about the Scream TV series. It's true I've been approached. My response was, it would depend on the script. If they have a great script/concept, it could be fun. If not, not."
Pretty straight forward then - but this is usually Mr Craven's response whenever asked about returning to the franchise.

Don't expect Kristin Cavallari to be leaving the windy city anytime soon. The former star of MTV's "Laguna Beach" and "The Hills" is forgoing her acting career for now, choosing instead to be with her fiance, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
In a new interview with Coco Eco magazine, Cavallari explains the decision, saying, "I've passed on a couple of things that would have kept me here in L.A. because my fiance Jay has to be in Chicago, so if I was here, we would never see each other." Soon enough her fiance will be her husband, as the couple are reportedly planning a summer wedding.
She's also focused on her and Cutler's son, Camden Jack, born in August. "It's easy to get wrapped up in your career and have that be your only focus," she says, "and I want my marriage to work and last -- and family comes first. »

"The Hills" may be over, but Lauren Conrad certainly hasn't squandered her money. The former reality star recently dropped a big chunk of change on a new home, TMZ reports. Maybe she can help out her former co-stars, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.
Conrad reportedly spent $3.74 million on the 4,300 square foot Brentwood, Cal. home. The two-story abode features six bedrooms, five bathrooms and was recently remodeled by Jeff Lewis, a celebrity interior designer seen on Bravo's "Flipping Out." One thing that seems to be missing from the home is a swimming pool, which is surprising for such an expensive place.
Since "The Hills" ended, Conrad has written eight books, with the latest one, "Infamous," releasing June 11. She's also launched her own fashion line, and filmed a pilot for another MTV reality show. The network opted not to turn the show into a series. »

The Season 8 premiere of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" is still a couple months away, but E! gives a taste of what's in store with a new minute-plus of footage from the new season (above).
"There's gonna be a huge change in dynamics here," Kris Jenner says at the start of the promo. Of course, that could be a nod to Kim's pregnancy, which will be documented throughout Season 8, but it could also refer to Brody Jenner -- former star of "The Hills" and Bruce's son from his previous marriage to Linda Thompson -- coming back into the fold.
