Saw: The Complete Movie Collection Blu-ray, Digital Coming in September

7 August 2014 7:22 PM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Lionsgate stopped cranking out Saw films roughly four years ago and that decision opened the door for the inevitable compilation Blu-ray box set, which has taken its time materializing. A listing  at online retailer Amazon.com has finally confirmed the set's existence and provided us with a September 23, 2014 release date for what Lionsgate is calling Saw: The Complete Movie Collection.

You have to take a stroll down memory lane to recollect how many Saw films Lionsgate produced between 2004 and 2010. The horror franchise started with Saw (2004) and then delivered annual entries with Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006), Saw IV (2007), Saw V (2008), Saw VI (2009) and Saw 3D (2010).

Saw: The Complete Movie Collection will include the unrated cuts of all seven Saw films on Blu-ray and Digital HD across three discs. It would be unfortunate if Saw 3D wasn't presented in 3D, but that's a possibility considering there's no mention of 3D on the box art. »

'Predator' Meets 'Call of Duty' in Director Darren Lynn Bousman's 'Apex'

10 July 2014 7:15 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Darren Lynn Bousman is attached to direct the indie sci-fi action-thriller Apex for 2511 Productions.

The plot is being described as a cross between Predator and the hit video game Call of Duty, centering on a Special Ops team tasked with finding a weapon of mass destruction in North Korea. When the Wmd is transported into another world, these soldiers find themselves going up against a deadly alien race.

James E. Cavanaugh came up with the original idea and wrote the screenplay, which addresses current trends in physics and biology. The screenwriter will also produce alongside Joe Di Maio (Kid Cannabis, Last Call) and Aaron Ray (V/H/S, The Ministers). The producers are envisioning Apex as a transmedia property, and plan to reveal concept art and alien designs at this year's Comic-Con.

Here's what Darren Lynn Bousman had to say about the project in a statement, where he said he »

Darren Lynn Bousman to Direct Sci-Fi Action Movie Apex; Described as Predator Meets Call Of Duty

10 July 2014 7:10 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV) is set to direct the independent sci-fi action movie Apex.  The project, scripted by James E. Cavanaugh, is described as Predator meets Call of Duty.  A special ops unit is sent to retrieve a Wmd from North Korea and ends up transported to another world where they must fight a dangerous alien race.  It's an interesting premise---sounds like it could make a nice double feature with Edge of Tomorrow.  I am curious to see what Bousman and 2511 Productions can do with an indie budget to create an alien world. Hit the jump for quotes from Bousman on his vision for Apex. Courtesy of Heat Vision: "Bousman sees Apex as 'a love letter to the sci-fi films I grew up watching with my dad, such as Alien, Predator, Enemy Mine, Tremors. But I also want it to have the more modern feel »

Watching hungry kids is an ugly form of entertainment | Zoe Williams

10 June 2014 8:50 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

So Channel 4's Breadline Kids are the 'innocent' victims. But what about the working adults trapped in a cycle of poverty?

You've had Breadline Britain and Benefits Street; welcome to Channel 4's Breadline Kids: all the poverty that's fit to screen, with people who, being younger, are much cuter than your average indigents. They're hungry, and they describe what that's like; it's horrible to hear. One of them has cancer. The only way it could be worse is if hungry kittens could talk.

Empathy is like fear, and Breadline Kids is like a horror movie. You see the kid; you imagine your own kid, hungry; you're flooded with an anxiety that you can't shift. Then the other half of this experience, the bit that qualifies it for entertainment, floods in sheer relief that it's not real. It's not your kid. Your kid can eat what it likes. And »

Crime Time: Top 10 Serial Killers in Movies

21 May 2014 2:47 PM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The phrase "serial killer" is most often attributed to the late FBI agent Robert Ressler, who coined the term along with fellow agent John Douglas as they began profiling and researching murder cases in the 1970s. His work led him to have direct contact with serial killers, with Ressler apparently receiving a painting from killer John Wayne Gacy with an inscription that apparently read: "Dear Bob Ressler, you cannot hope to enjoy the harvest without first laboring in the fields. Best wishes and good luck. Sincerely, John Wayne Gacy, June 1988."

The inscription sounds like it came out of a movie, which perhaps isn't so surprising since Hollywood has been making movies about serial killers since the silent era. Sometimes these movies are about real-life killers, other times they are based on real-life killers or events, or, and perhaps even more disturbing, they are based on nothing but imagination. Either way, »

The Stuff Blu-Ray Review

Director: Larry Cohen

Starring: Michael MoriartyAndrea Marcovicci, Paul Sorvino, Danny Aiello and Garrett Morris

Running Time: 93 minutes

Certificate: 15

Ben & Jerry have strong competition as a luscious new dessert hits the stores and is taking supermarket shelves by storm. But just what does this mysterious goo, secretly oozing from the Earth, offer those munching on its sugary goodness?

Coming courtesy of cult horror auteur Larry Cohen, the legendary figure schooled in the low-budget Roger Corman form of quick filmmaking, The Stuff is one of those unique creature-features impossible not to like despite it’s cheap cheekiness. Inspired by the 1950s hits like The Blob and featuring an absurd premise taking an obvious pot shot at consumerism, corporate greed and environmental abuse, The Stuff is as intoxicating as its delicious product suggests because of the cast. Particularly Cohen regular Michael Moriarty as the swaggering industrial saboteur David “Mo” Rutherford. He’s »

Larry Cohen's The Stuff Is About to Become a Delicious Treat on British Blu-ray

12 February 2014 11:44 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

For our friends across the pond and the fiends here at home with region-free capabilities that can’t get enough of The Stuff, the one-of-a-kind deadly dessert social satire is bowing on Blu-ray March 10th courtesy of British distributors Arrow Video.

Michael Moriarty, Andrea Marcovicci, Garrett Morris, Paul Sorvino, and Danny Aiello star in this Larry Cohen (Q, The Winged Serpent, the It’s Alive trilogy) flick that is uniquely one of a kind.

12 Minute Making-Of Featurette For 'Cassadaga'

3 January 2014 5:30 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Earlier this week, 'Cassadaga,' the new feature film from director Anthony Diblasi was released on DVD just under the radar. However, it's a new horror film that absolutely should be on your radar. Why? Not only did I name it one of my Top 10 horror films of 2013, but it's a truly unique genre film that combines a tradition ghost story with a serial killer named "Geppetto," who literally pulls his victims apart limb from limb just to put them back together as a human marionette. It stars Kelen Coleman, 'True Blood's Kevin Alejandro & if you're playing close attention, you'll also spot genre vet J. Larose ('Insidious,' 'Saw III') in there too. There's a lot of weird & wild stuff in the flick, so you need to find it and check it out Asap. (It's also available on VOD right now.)

Here's a fun treat. »

2 January 2014 6:15 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Insidious Chapter 2 is supernatural horror at its best. A nerve-shredding sequel to the box office smash hit Insidious. Renowned director James Wan and the Blumhouse family prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that scares should be a mixture of great characterisation and suspense. A modern day reimagining of vintage horror mixed with incredible direction makes for one of the most intense cinematic experiences in recent years.

To celebrate the release of Insidious Chapter 2, courtesy of Entertainment One, we have Insidious goodies to give away – including T-shirt, torche, dice and holder and the film on Blu-ray!
