The Hairiest Rescue Mission Since Shaving Ryan's Privates. Army Sgt. Rock Hard races to rescue his fiancé from the clutches of a demented geneticist, before she ends up like the rest of this madman's failed experiments and becomes--what else? A Neutron Zombie.
Four teenage kids from the tiny mining town of Gold Lick vandalize a nineteenth-century cemetery of Chinese laborers when one of them disturbs a demon who's been guarding the souls of 100 workers killed in a cave-in. Jeff, the surviving teen, goes in search of his hero, over-the-hill B-movie star, Bruce Campbell. Jeff kidnaps the actor and brings him to Gold Lick to save the town. Bruce thinks it's a birthday treat engineered by his agent, so he plays along, humoring the townsfolk and chatting up Jeff's unimpressed mom. Bodies pile up as the demon slashes. What will the sorry, boozy Bruce do when he realizes that Guan-Di, the demon, is for real? Written by
If you consider yourself a fan of Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead 1 and 2, plus it's third chapter,Armies Of Darkness, etc.), you owe it to yourself to seek this one out. Bruce Campbell (who also directed this film) plays a down & out actor, taking any & every part in every no budget piece of crap horror flick, named....well...um...Bruce Campbell. His sleaze bag of a manager sets him up with what is the promise of a birthday present that's to die for. What he happens upon is a small town that is in the throes of an ancient Chinese curse, involving the awakened spirit of a angry protector of bean curd (I am not making this up). What follows is a nearly non stop roller coaster ride of a movie, with loads of in jokes, pop culture references,a beautiful woman, and some bloody (but darkly funny)violence. Put them all together, mix in some campy humour & you have yourself a fun time at the movies. This is the kind of film that should be screened as a midnight movie,if there were any cinemas that featured them these days. Slapped with an 'R' rating, this film serves up some raunchy language, bloody violence, and the central protagonist's sleazy lifestyle. (AFTER NOTE:Some screening of this film have actually had Bruce Campbell, himself, hosting a half hour post film question and answer session---check your listings for a cinema that has one,and remember to bring a camera).
