American Made movie review: they’re quite bad fellas, in fact

MaryAnn’s quick take… Style and humor galore, and a hugely entertaining performance from Tom Cruise. But should a true story of immense governmental corruption be quite this fun? I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Ever since he was a kid Tom Cruise wanted to work for the Colombian drug cartels? Not quite, but American Made, based on the true story of commerical airline pilot turned international criminal mastermind Barry Seal, hits a lot of the same beats as GoodFellas, though it misses some it tries to hit, too. By the time Barry, in his gleeful voiceover narration, says, “The money was coming in faster than I could launder it,” I felt like I’d seen this all before, and better.

“No, Mister CIA, your code name cannot be ‘Risky Business.’”

Barry is, in the

Jamie Bell developing Jumper TV reboot

Deadline is reporting that Jamie Bell is teaming with writer-director Julian Simpson (Doctor Who) to develop a small screen reboot of the 2008 film Jumper, which was itself based upon Steven Gould’s novel.

The series is being produced by Studio Canal, New Regency and Lionsgate and follows a teenager with teleportation abilities who suddenly finds himself in the middle of an ancient war between those like him and their sworn annihilators. Bell may potentially reprise his role from the film, which saw him starring alongside Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Samuel L. Jackson and Diane Lane.

In addition to the Jumper reboot, YouTube Red has also placed a series order for a Jumper sequel entitled Impulse, which has the movie’s director Doug Liman attached. Both projects are separate from one another.

Jumper TV Reboot in Development with Jamie Bell

Numbers wise is the only way you could call Jumper a success. There were some decent effects in it and the story wasn’t too bad, but the main problem was the lead actor. Maybe now that Jamie Bell is going to take over in a Jumper TV reboot things will get better. So long as Hayden Christensen doesn’t come near the set things should be okay. His time as a jumper wasn’t one hundred percent horrible but unless he takes a few acting lessons it would be best to leave him out of the project entirely. Jamie Bell has proven

Jamie Bell May Reprise ‘Jumper’ Role For TV Reboot

  • The Playlist
For a few years, Doug Liman loosely kicked around the idea of making a sequel to “Jumper,” which you may have forgotten earned $222 million worldwide back in 2008. That feature followup never materialized, but last fall, Liman went to YouTube Red where he’ll be making “Impulse,” a series based on the novel written by Steven Gould, which follows the characters played by Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson (who will not be back), who have a young daughter who inherits her father’s teleportation ability.

Star Wars Prequels Almost Got a Totally Different Anakin Skywalker
For years Star Wars fans could only dream about the events of the Clone Wars and Anakin Skywalker's fall from grace, as first introduced in the original Star Wars trilogy. The power of the dark side that seduced Darth Vader, the legendary piloting skills of Luke's father, it was all only spoken about, until George Lucas announced plans to finally bring Episodes I, II, and III to life, promising to show us the first meeting between Obi-Wan and Anakin and the fateful duel that turned the newly minted Darth Vader into "more machine than man." And George Lucas needed to find perfect actor to play the role. Which wasn't an easy task by any means.

There were hundreds of screen tests before Lucas enlisted young Jake Lloyd to play the future Darth Vader in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. To say the performance wasn't well received is putting
