Things You Don't Tell...: Well I'll never "Tell" someone they should watch this
Platypuschow4 September 2017
Things You Don't Tell is a thriller with three stories all interlocking.

A married man and his strained relationship with his mistress, a mentally ill mother on the run with her kids & a guy taking his comic book persona a bit too far.

The way they connect is decent enough but none of the stories are exactly enthralling.

The first thing that bugged me is that it's the latest in a long line of movies to feature a cheating protagonist. Why is this okay? Why am I supposed to care about this character? I have no idea why this is in so many movies but its very frustrating and very damaging.

Things You Don't Tell isn't terrible it's just one of those generic movies you'd see on Lifetime.

The Good:

The three stories do blend very well

The Bad:

None of the characters are even remotely likable

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

Society is clearly okay with cheering on people who cheat on their partners

Doesn't take much for a movie to constitute as a "psychological thriller"

Indie thriller has a TV movie quality

Warning: Spoilers
THINGS YOU DON'T TELL... is a little slicker and bigger budgeted than most indie thrillers I've seen, although overall it's poor compared to any mainstream film you might mention. It almost looks like your average TV movie at times. The story is about a woman who flees her husband and takes her son along with her, and her brother who ends up being tipped over the edge. It's fairly well shot at times, although still entirely cheap and indifferently acted.

I want my 100 minutes back!

I was browsing through the DVD store and found this rental somewhere in the horror section. The cover looked great! The chick on the front with the tape over her mouth, movie stills on the back looked intriguing and the "Strong Violence" on the classification was all definitely up my alley! So I rented it out, sat on the lounge and got ready for a good night in.

Previews of other movies started playing and they all looked like those B grade 'made-for-tv' midday movies that come on and we watch when home staying sick in bed. I thought "Oh no, don't tell me this is gonna be one of THOSE movies!" I persevered and gave it the benefit of the doubt. Then the movie started.....

I can understand the intend the script writer had - although the script was clunky it had great potential, but other than that, the continuity was shotty, the audio was out of sync most of the time and the acting... well, let's just say it was extremely awkward to watch.

Basically, three family members, three scenarios, three plots and zero twists. The actors don not try very hard to connect with the audience, except for one of the little boys in the movie that sits himself down and proclaims, "I am bored" And at that moment I identified with his character - then the moment passed.

I could have looked at the cover for a couple of hours and got more enjoyment.

All in all I'd have to say this movie was a waste of time, or would make a great movie to watch and have vodka shots with.

This movie should re-release it's self under the name "Things you don't watch"

Sorry
