Evil Empire Gets Some Image Management With ‘Death Star PR’

19 December 2012 8:58 AM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Shit Girls Say was able to turn a popular Twitter feed into a successful web series. Now, another well-liked account is looking to do the same. The team behind the Death Star PR feed have developed a six episode web series about the process of working public relations for the Star Wars Empire's superweapon. The creators of the web series, or at least its main actors, are quite British indeed, and the show's humor is therefore very dry and occasionally quite subtle. The workplace is a very common setting for British comedy, and Death Star PR follows the lead of shows like The Office and The It Crowd, albeit with an absurd sci-fi parody twist. The Death Star PR YouTube channel has become a locus for trailers and clips related to the series. The popularity of the Twitter has driven a few thousand viewers to each clip, with over 3000 checking out the official trailer. »

Starring Ben Stiller (Tower Heist), Vince Vaughn (Dodgeball), Jonah Hill (Superbad) and Richard Ayoade (The It Crowd), The Watch is an outrageous look at a group of guys who must dig deep to find their inner heroes when their neighbourhood is threatened. Evan (Stiller), a middle class, suburban shop manager, lives a perfect life in the sleepy town of Glenview, Ohio until one night when one of his security guards is brutally murdered while on duty. Disillusioned with the local police force Evan takes solving the crime into his own hands and recruits four neighbours - knife-wielding police academy drop-out Franklin (Hill), British divorcee Jamarcus (Ayoade) and gadget-loving construction worker Bob (Vaughn) - into the ultimate 'Neighbourhood Watch'. The It Crowd special planned for "middle of next year"

News Louisa Mellor Dec 17, 2012

Graham Linehan hopes to reunite The It Crowd trio for a one-off special in mid-2013...

Ever since Graham Linehan dangled a potential It Crowd special in front of his audience after the series four finale, we've been waiting to hear more. Now, thanks to a fan on Twitter this weekend taking the journalistic initiative to ask @Glinner what the progress was, we learn that the special is pencilled in for "...the middle of next year" (though whether that means filming or broadcast we don't yet know).

Real life, in the form of burgeoning Hollywood careers, babies, stage and TV jobs, had previously made the task of uniting the show's makers with Katherine Parkinson, Chris O'Dowd and Richard Ayoade (aka Jen, Roy and Moss) a tricky one, so fingers crossed everything comes into alignment for next year's one-off return to Reynholm Industries.

'The It Crowd' to return in 2013 for one-off special?

The It Crowd creator Graham Linehan has revealed that he is planning to revive the series. The writer announced on Twitter that he is hoping to bring the Channel 4 sitcom back for a one-off special in mid-2013. Last year, Linehan confirmed that there would not be a full fifth series of The It Crowd, which aired between 2006 and 2010. The comedy starred Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayoade and Katherine Parkinson as three staff members of the It department at the fictional Reynholm Industries. O'Dowd - who played (more) »

Win a Prop from the movie The Watch starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn

17 December 2012 12:45 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

We’ve given away so much on HeyUGuys to my knowledge, this is the first time we’ve given away a real prop from a movie! To mark the release of the movie on DVD and Blu-ray 26th December, the guys at  Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have given us the actual neighbourhood watch notebook that you seen used in the movie. As well as the notebook, we’ll also give you a copy of the movie on Blu-ray.

The modern kings of comedy unite in The Watch, a laugh-out-loud comedy that wears its orgy-packed, exploding cow, gun-toting sense of humour on its sleeve when it arrives on Blu-ray and DVD from December 26, 2012 courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs – and other great screen nerds

Forthcoming biopic Jobs joins a great tradition of film and TV geekery from The Social Network to The It Crowd

Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs

As well as the (admittedly quite freaky) physical resemblance, Ashton Kutcher is perhaps the most qualified actor around to play Steve Jobs. After all, they're both technological visionaries: Jobs being the brains behind Pixar, the Mac, the iPod, iPad and iPhone, and Kutcher being an early investor in startups such as Skype, Airbnb and Foursquare. What's more, Jobs was known for his obsessive perfectionism and ability to convince the public of a product's desirability. Having been the host of Punk'd and the star of Dude, Where's My Car, Kutcher also ... no, I don't know where I'm going with this one.

BBC2 commissions series from The League of Gentlemen stars

Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith's standalone stories will star Gemma Arterton, Tamsin Greig and Timothy West

BBC2 has commissioned a series of dark comedies from the writers and stars of The League of Gentlemen and Psychoville, featuring Gemma Arterton, Tamsin Greig and Timothy West.

The series, written by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, will air on BBC2 late next year.

Given the working title Inside No.9, the comedy will consist of standalone stories of the bizarre goings on at very different houses with the same numerical address.

Each of the six stories will be set in a different house – from a grand country manor to the flat of primary school teacher – where "the ordinary and mundane rub shoulders with the extraordinary and macabre", according to the BBC.

First Stills Of Eisenberg In Richard Ayoade’s ‘The Double’

26 November 2012 11:36 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

This year, The It Crowd star Richard Ayoade ventured onto the big screen alongside comedy superstars Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn in The Watch. Unfortunately, it seems the script was sharted onto blank paper and managed to form legible words. Back in 2010, however, Ayoade secured critical acclaim with his directorial debut Submarine. Now the writer/director/comedian is back behind the camera with The Double.

An adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s comedic novella of the same name, The Double features a man whose life is set to be destroyed by a ‘literal facsimile of his self.’ This doppelganger aims to replace his double in his government job and take over his social circle. We’ve been told to think ‘Fight Club for bureaucrats.’

The Social Network actor Jesse Eisenberg takes the lead role — or, roles — alongside Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Rade Serbedzija, and Submarine’s Yasmin Paige. The Double »

The secret terrors of caravanning

23 November 2012 4:00 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

How childhood camping and a trip to the Keswick pencil museum helped the star write a top new British horror movie

It's 1pm on a Wednesday, and the cafes of Bethnal Green Road are rammed. Which is all well and good if you want cheap pasta and East End ambience, but ruinous for dictaphone chinwags. Somehow, Alice Lowe still manages to spot a dining establishment utterly devoid of character, and, indeed, customers. During the 90 minutes we spend in there, it's just us. Which is perfect for a discussion about murder.

The juxtaposition of the humdrum and the grisly is apt. Sightseers, British director Ben Wheatley's third and funniest film (after the less chucklesome horrors of Down Terrace and Kill List), finds a downtrodden couple enjoying a revelatory first holiday together, a caravanning trip where barbaric violence tracks their rapidly developing relationship. Think Nuts In May meets Badlands, although comparisons »

First images from Richard Ayoade's The Double

23 November 2012 2:14 PM, PST | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

He might be best known as Moss from The It Crowd, but Richard Ayoade proved himself to be a director worth keeping an eye on with 2010's Submarine. Now he's back in the director's chair with an adaption of Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Double. The comedy-drama stars Jesse Eisenberg as a man driven to madness with the appearence of his doppelganger. So, belly laughs all round then. Judging from the pictures below, Ayoade has constructed something extremely moody and atmospheric that it is hard to see where the comedy comes in (but I have no doubt it's there). Couple that with an interesting cast, including Wallace Shawn (who will forever be known as Rex from Toy Story), Noah Taylor, and Mia Wasikowska, The Double is definitely one to keep an eye on. The film is currently in post-production, and has no release date yet. Source: Empire (via Cinema Teaser) »

Atmospheric First Pics Of Jesse Eisenberg & Noah Taylor In Richard Ayoade's 'The Double'

22 November 2012 10:36 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Though already well established as a comic actor, writer and director thanks to his work on Brit TV in fare such as "The It Crowd," "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" and more, with his debut feature film "Submarine," Richard Ayoade proved himself to be an astute stylist as well. While lazy folks compared his assemblage of French New Wave tics, mixed visual formats and a careful eye for set decoration and costuming as a Wes Anderson riff, he proved he could stand well enough on his own. And it looks like for his next effort, "The Double," he will make a distinct 180 from what he did before. The first images for the film have arrived (via CinemaTeaser) and they are intriguingly atmospheric. The picture, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Noah Taylor, Mia Wasikowska, Yasmin Page and more, and co-written by Ayoade and Harmony's bro Avi Korine, is a contemporary America-set update on the novella by Fyodor Dostoevsky, »
