Transformations: Looking Back at 'The Fly II' (2005)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

This forty-eight minute documentary takes a look at the making of THE FLY II and features interviews with director Chris Walas, producer Steven-Charles Jaffe and composer Christopher Young. Just about every aspect of the production are covered here but it's the director who gets the majority of the running time.

Walas starts off talking about how he ended up getting the job and from here we start on the production. He talks about what the producers and studio originally wanted out of the movie and he talks about some of the earlier screenplay drafts. From here we learn about the film being rushed into production when another Fox film got pushed off the schedule and then we hear about the casting, the shooting, deleted scenes, the score and the final reaction to the film.

If you're a fan of the film or if you hated the film like me, this is an extremely well-done documentary that gives you a terrific idea of what was going on behind the scenes. The producer and composer have a few things to say but the director gets the majority of the running time so he's able to give great details about what he was trying to do with the picture.
