Exclusive Interview – Michael Glover Smith discusses relationships, gender politics, and more for Mercury in Retrograde

Robert Kojder chats with Mercury in Retrograde director Michael Glover Smith

Mercury in Retrograde is the second directorial effort from Chicago-based filmmaker Michael Glover Smith and reaches profound messages on relationships; this is aesthetically pleasing, strongly written and directed, superb work with an outstanding ensemble. It’s a must watch for anyone that values relationships and the definition of love. And it needs to be stated that the trio of women are unequivocally absorbing (I have an interview with them coming too). The film should be available on streaming devices towards the end of the year, but for those fortunate enough to be in the Chicago area it will have screenings at the Gene Siskel Film Center accompanied by Q&A sessions with Michael Glover Smith, and don’t delay looking up ticket information on the website as they are expected to sell out. If you can’t attend or want more dialogue on the film,

The Best Movie Action Scenes of 2017

Harrison Abbott on the best movie action scenes of 2017…

It’s that time again. That’s right, it’s time for arbitrary lists that subjectively rank the best/worst things of the year! This one is about 2017’s decent catalogue of cinematic action scenes, which means there’s likely a lot of omissions to piss you off.

With that in mind, remember to post your baffling vitriol and inexplicable anger in the comments.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle – Taxi Chase

Irrespective of its less-than-stellar narrative and apparent script problems, this polarising spy flick did at least confirm that Matthew Vaughn is in a league of his own when it comes to spectacle. No matter what material he’s working with, the British director can always be depended upon to pull off a killer set-piece or two. From Stardust’s inspired voodoo sword fight, to Kick-Ass’ unbelievable strobe-light rescue (and of course

Bryan Singer Was Replaced on Bohemian Rhapsody By Director Dexter Fletcher

Following the big fallout between director Bryan Singer and Fox, the studio has officially replaced Singer as the director of Bohemian Rhapsody. Singer was fired from the production earlier this week and now director Dexter Fletcher will finish the film.

Fletcher is an interesting choice. He directed the wonderful film Eddie The Eagle and has also acted in a couple Matthew Vaughn films such as Kick-Ass and Stardust. Fletcher was also one of the original directors in the running to helm the Freddie Mercury biopic before Singer was involved. Maybe they should have gone with him in the first place. Deadline goes on to explain:

The studio began canvassing for replacement directors even before Singer went Awol after Thanksgiving, sources said. Fox denies this, and the studio denies that anyone but Fletcher was offered the job once Singer was sacked. My sources said that the film didn’t appeal to everyone.

'Bohemian Rhapsody' Finds Bryan Singer's Replacement in 'Eddie the Eagle' Director Dexter Fletcher

'Bohemian Rhapsody' Finds Bryan Singer's Replacement in 'Eddie the Eagle' Director Dexter Fletcher
Bohemian Rhapsody has found itself a new director.

Following director Bryan Singer's termination from the hotly anticipated biopic about the iconic rock group Queen, Fox has turned to filmmaker and actor Dexter Fletcher to finish directing the film, Et can confirm.

Production on the project – which stars Rami Malek as legendary rocker Freddie Mercury – is expected to resume next week, in London.

Fletcher -- who is best known for his impressive body of work as a character actor in films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Kick-Ass, and Stardust – made his directorial debut in 2011 with the British crime drama Wild Bill, which earned him a BAFTA nomination.

Most recently, Fletcher helmed Eddie the Eagle, a biopic about Olympic skier Eddie Edwards starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman.

Fletcher is boarding Bohemian Rhapsody just days after Singer was fired from the production. Fox did not state the reasons for his termination apart from citing his "unexpected

‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Finds New Director After Bryan Singer’s Firing

‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Finds New Director After Bryan Singer’s Firing
Fox has tapped Dexter Fletcher as the new director of “Bohemian Rhapsody” to replace the fired Bryan Singer.

Production will resume next week in London. Fletcher’s directing credits include “Eddie the Eagle,” which Fox distributed, and “Wild Bill” along with acting credits on “Kick-Ass” and “Stardust.”

The studio made the announcement late Wednesday afternoon, two days after firing Singer under the “pay or play” provision of his contract. Fox did not elaborate on why it had fired Singer, but sources said that it was due to repeated failures to show up on the set.

Filming has been taking place in London with “Mr. Robot” star Rami Malek in the lead role as Freddie Mercury, the frontman for Queen. New Regency and Gk Films are the production companies.

Fox has not changed its plan to release “Bohemian Rhapsody” on Dec. 25, 2018. Sources have said that about two weeks of shooting remain.

As a result
