Neil Gaiman’s Interworld being adapted into a TV series

20 July 2016 5:15 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Elizabeth Rayne Jul 21, 2016

The parallel universes Gaiman and Michael Reeves’ Ya sci-fi-slash-fantasy novel are coming to your living room.

From Stardust and American Gods to episodes of Doctor Who, the supernatural works of Neil Gaiman have enchanted fantasy and sci-fi fans on both the page and screen. Now Universal Cable Productions will be making magic with Neil Gaiman and Michael Reeves’ Ya novel, Interworld

Here's a quick primer on the premise for the uninitiated:

Interworld is the strange story of teen Joey Harker, who is never the same after he passes through a peculiar fog. Reality seems warped on the other side—including the not-so-insignificant detail that Joey doesn’t exist anymore (at least in this universe). In fact, he is supposed to be dead.

Bewitched into following an extraterrestrial sorceress and her two henchmen to their spaceship, Joey is teleported into hyperspace. He is saved by a man in »

‘Neil Gaiman: Dream Dangerously’ Review: The Fantasy Writer Deserves Better Than This Limp Tribute

14 July 2016 1:51 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Neil Gaiman fans are committed to supporting his work, but even they may have trouble with “Neil Gaiman: Dream Dangerously,” the limp new documentary by Patrick Meaney currently available on Vimeo on Demand. How a feature on one of our greatest living fantasy authors could be so mundane is a mystery. Whether it’s because Meaney lacks his subject’s sweeping imagination, or Gaiman’s introverted nature was simply too difficult to surmount, “Dream Dangerously” comes up short.

You couldn’t find a more fascinating pop culture figure to receive this treatment: Gaiman is a British novelist best known for the comic book series “The Sandman,” a groundbreaking fantasy comic about the world of dreams, which is generally believed to have ushered in the genre of contemporary dark fantasy. After his breakout years in the eighties, Gaiman successfully transitioned from comics to novels with hits like “Stardust,” “American Gods,” “Coraline, »

Colin Firth Returns as Harry Hart in New Kingsman 2 Set Photo

11 July 2016 3:55 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Shortly after 20th Century Fox released their surprise blockbuster Kingsman: The Secret Service, talk of a sequel started to surface. Director Matthew Vaughn teased last spring that he had some ideas for the sequel, even hinting that Colin Firth's character Harry Hart may return in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, despite being seemingly killed off at the end of the first movie. Back in April, a new poster teased the return of Harry Hart, but we haven't gotten a glimpse at the actor since production began. Thankfully, Pedro Pascal has offered our first look at Colin Firth from the set.

Over the weekend, Pedro Pascal shared a photo on Instagram, which features the actor hiding behind Colin Firth, with the caption "Hide behind Harry." Unfortunately, the photo doesn't come with any details about how this Kingsman agent was brought back to life, but the poster from this spring featured the »

Kingsman 2 Reunites Vinnie Jones and Director Matthew Vaughn

29 June 2016 1:17 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Over the past few months, the 20th Century Fox sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle has been releasing a number of unique posters which have confirmed new cast members such as Channing Tatum, Elton John and Jeff Bridges. These posters have even revealed the return of Colin Firth, though his character Harry Hart was presumably killed in last year's blockbuster Kingsman: The Secret Service. Today we have word that Vinnie Jones has joined the cast, reuniting him with director Matthew Vaughn.

Vinnie Jones teased on Twitter earlier this week that he was filming scenes for Kingsman 2, although it seems a few of his followers didn't believe him. The actor went on to prove that he was in fact on the Kingsman: The Golden Circle set by posting a few videos and new photos of the actor alongside director Matthew Vaughn and co-star Julianne Moore. Unfortunately, the actor wouldn't shed any »

Pfeiffer + Aronofsky = !!!!!!!!!!!

Pfeiffer in Beat-Up Little SeagullJust so everyone knows, I am indeed still alive. After briefly passing out. I was on a flight when news broke that Michelle Pfeiffer had signed on to the cast of the new untitled Darren Aronofsky film due in 2017 with filming to start this June.

La Pfeiffer has been Mia from the movies in a significant way since White Oleander (2002) her last Oscar worthy performance (she has famously never won despite multiple breathtaking star turns)  and the last onscreen appearance without significant breaks thereafter. She flirted with a comeback in a brief flurry of activity around 2007-2008 (Stardust & Cheri being the highlights) but it's been relatively quiet since then. But no more? »

The Defenders Netflix series could arrive sooner than expected, but at the cost of Daredevil Season 3.

It looks like Marvel's plan to team Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist (and possibly some members of their supporting casts) in The Defenders Netflix series have been accelerated. Charlie Cox told a Netflix event in Paris (quotes via The Independent) that he doesn't know the status of Daredevil Season 3, which sounds like bad news, until you consider what he followed it up with.

"What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome... I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one. »

'Kingsman 2' Gets 'Game of Thrones' Star Pedro Pascal

8 April 2016 10:13 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Yesterday, a new poster surfaced for 20th Century Fox's upcoming sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which teased that Kingsman: The Secret Service star Colin Firth may return, despite his character Harry Hart being killed off in the original movie. While we wait for confirmation on Colin Firth's return, Deadline reports that the cast keeps growing, with Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal signing on. The actor will be playing a character named Jack Daniels, who may be a character teased in a previous report.

Last month it was revealed that Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) visit the U.S., where they encounter Halle Berry's character and a "swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy" called Jack. This is presumably the role that Pedro Pascal has landed. That report also revealed the U.S. version of Kingsman is an organization known as the Statesmen, while we saw concept art of Julianne Moore's villainous lair, »

‘Daredevil’ Star Charlie Cox on His New Play and What Every Fan Should Know Before Bingeing Season 2

15 March 2016 2:36 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Just a few weeks after season two of Marvel superhero series “Daredevil” hits Netflix on March 18, the show’s star, Charlie Cox, goes into rehearsal for the Off Broadway play “Incognito,” starting performances May 3 in Manhattan Theater Club’s 299-seat theater at New York City Center. The play by Nick Payne, the writer whose “Constellations” brought Jake Gyllenhaal to Broadway, tells interlocking stories about cognition and memory and identity. Cox (“The Theory of Everything,” “Stardust”) talked to Variety about what takes him Off Broadway at this point in his career — and what he wants every “Daredevil” fan to know before diving into the second season.

Why do a play now?

The great thing about doing a play is you get this rehearsal period, which you don’t get with most film and television roles. I’m really looking forward to that. And then to tell a story in its entirety »

Miss peregrine trailer unleashed!

15 March 2016 12:48 PM, PDT | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

We’re all peculiar here, no? Well, maybe not as peculiar as some of Miss Peregrine’s menagerie of children. But we’re Monster Kids at heart.

So, having reveled in Ransom Riggs’ best-selling trilogy of Peculiar novels, I’m beside myself in anticipation of the film adaptation of the first in the series, Miss Peregrine’S Home For Peculiar Children. The talent involved is more than enough for hopefulness! It’s got Tim Burton at the helm! And it stars one of the best character actresses of our time, Eva Green, playing a particular movie-star-beautiful version of the titular Miss Peregrine, along with Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Nanny McPhee Returns), Kim Dickens (Fear The Walking Dead, Hollow Man), six-time Emmy winner Allison Janney, Oscar winner Judi Dench and workhorse Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers, Robocop, 1408, practically everything else filmed in the last three decades). That’s a lotta onscreen talent! »

'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children' Trailer Is Burton at His Best

15 March 2016 10:19 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Ransom Riggs' Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children gets translated to the big screen in the peculiar way only Tim Burton knows how. The New York Times Best Seller from Quirk Books was originally meant to be mostly a collection of pictures but the debut author's editor urged him to create a narrative around it and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was born as a young adult novel. The screenplay was written by Jane Goldman who previously worked on Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service and more. The film features the amazing lineup of Eva Green as Miss Peregrine, Asa Butterfield, Samuel L. Jackson, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Rupert Everett, and Dame Judi Dench. Check out the first trailer! Here's the official synopsis of the film: From visionary director Tim Burton, and based upon the best-selling novel, comes an unforgettable motion picture experience. Mad Max Furiously Rules The Empire Award Nominations

18 February 2016 2:09 PM, PST | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Mad Max: Fury Road has landed the most 2016 Empire Award nominations — ten (the same it got from the Oscars!) — of 2016 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens nipping at its heels with nine. The British magazine Empire presents the awards, which are voted on by readers and cinema fans around the world — both the nominations and the awards themselves. (And, technically speaking, they’re the Jameson Empire Awards, since Jameson Irish whiskey began sponsoring them in their 14th year. Cheers to that!)

With The Force Awakens being part of the beloved Star Wars mythology and breaking box-office records left and right at record speed, it’s a bit surprising Mad Max outpaced it. It goes to show that both fans adore this instant classic as much as the critics do, getting nods for:

• Best Film

• Best Director (George Miller)

• Best Actor (Tom Hardy)

• Best Actress (Charlize Theron, who should teach a »

Daredevil season 2 trailer breakdown

We took a close look at the Daredevil season 2 trailer to see what Marvel Universe goodness might be hiding within...

The first real trailer for Daredevil season 2 is here, and it's no joke. The focus is put squarely on Jon Bernthal as the Punisher for this one, and (if you can believe this) it appears to be even darker than the first one. I went hunting for Marvel Universe details in the trailer and found a few fun things.

Watch the Daredevil season 2 trailer, and then we'll get into some analysis...

Alright. Let's get going. Beware, because there are potential spoilers in this, so don't read if you're not into that sort of thing...

Unlike the first trailer for season one, the Daredevil season 2 trailer isn't exactly dripping in Marvel Universe references. That's not a bad thing. The trailers for Jessica Jones took a similar approach, and »

'Eddie the Eagle' Super Bowl Commercial Goes for the Gold

Last week, a report surfaced teasing some of the possible movie-related trailers that will air during Super Bowl 50 this Sunday on CBS. While none of these were confirmed by the respective studios, the report claimed that 20th Century Fox was planning "on-the-ground events" for movies such as Eddie the Eagle, X-Men: Apocalypse and Independence Day: Resurgence, which hinted that we may in fact see new footage from these movies during the big game. Just three days before the Super Bowl, 20th Century Fox has officially released its trailer for Eddie the Eagle, which has a football twist.

While the 30-second spot does include footage from the movie, the video reveals that several past and present NFL stars were treated to an advanced screening of Eddie the Eagle, with three iconic quarterbacks offering their thoughts on this true story adaptation. Emily S. Whitten: Seven Movies for Surviving Snowzilla

26 January 2016 10:00 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

This past weekend we here in Washington DC got a lot of snow. Um… “A whole lot of snow”? …Okay, how about, “a metric ton of snow”? Ooh… “The fourth heaviest snowstorm dating to 1884.” There. I think that sums it up nicely.

Given this, I (not even kidding) have not left my home in five days (but I’m still sane! No really, I promise! The purple bunnies in my pantry told me so.) And of course, being a very practical person, since I knew the storm was coming I ensured I was well-stocked with all the necessary items beforehand. But then, around the end of Day 1, as the snowdrifts began inching into the two-foot range on my windowsills, I began to wonder what I would do to entertain myself if the power went out (taking with it, one might assume, the Internet).

“Ah-ha!” I said to myself. “I have »
