Michelle Pfeiffer reunites with Robert De Niro in HBO's Madoff film 'Wizard of Lies'

28 August 2015 9:52 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Michelle Pfeiffer has joined the cast of "Wizard of Lies," HBO's upcoming movie about the Bernie Madoff scandal. She'll be playing Ruth Madoff, wife to Robert De Niro's Bernie, and mother to Alessandra Nivola's Mark, in a film directed by Barry Levinson. This is the fourth film to feature both Pfeiffer and De Niro, though only the second in which they'll have any kind of meaningful interaction. They were largely in separate parts of "Stardust" and "New Year's Eve," though they played husband and wife in 2013's "The Family." It will also be Pfeiffer's first TV role since an uncredited cameo in an episode of husband David E. Kelley's "Picket Fences." »

A Conversation With Composer Ilan Eshkeri On His Shaun The Sheep Movie Score

12 August 2015 7:54 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

When Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun, he gets a little more action than he bargained for. A mix up with The Farmer, a caravan, and a very steep hill lead them all to the Big City and it’s up to Shaun and the flock to return everyone safely to Mossy Bottom Farm.

Shaun The Sheep Movie powers through visual puns, sight gags and rollicking plot twists to arrive at a hard-won realization: there’s no place like home.

As there is no dialogue from any of the characters, the music plays such an important role in the movie. That’s where the fantastic, colorful score from composer Ilan Eshkeri comes in.

Complete with the Shaun the Sheep theme, lively cues, and songs, including the award-friendly “Feels Like Summer” song, Eshkeri score is a wonderful soundtrack for a very funny film.

Daredevil season 2: Elodie Yung cast as Elektra

8 July 2015 12:16 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Elodie Yung of G.I. Joe: Retaliation will play Elektra in Marvel’s Netflix Daredevil season 2, joining Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal...

The inclusion of Elektra in Daredevil season 2 has been rumoured for a while. Indeed, it’s something that Charlie Cox seemed keen to happen when we interviewed him earlier this year.

Now, the news has been confirmed, and an actress has been named too – Elodie Yung. She’s been seen before in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and District 13: Ultimatum. She also popped up in the American Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie back in 2011.

“After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Marvel TV bigwig Jeph Loeb.

“Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with »

Marvel's Daredevil: Rosario Dawson discusses season 2

18 June 2015 11:43 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

You can expect higher stakes during Marvel's second season of Daredevil, on Netflix, according to Rosario Dawson

It’s fair to say that Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix was full of top notch performances, from its hero to its villains, and the supporting cast, too. Rosario Dawson’s Claire (inspired partly by the Night Nurse character from the comics) was a particular highlight. She’ll be back for season 2, and has been discussing the show recently.

“I’m looking forward to seeing where [Claire] goes,” she said of her character, “because her eyes have been opened up to this other world — and she’s crossed the line. You know, this is someone who helps people, and she’s been violent now, but seeing the need for it.”

“I think there’s a lot that she’s having to grapple with, and I think that’s what’s exciting about using »

Kingsman 2 confirmed by Matthew Vaughn

11 June 2015 10:27 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Matthew Vaughn is definitely writing a Kingsman: The Secret Service sequel. If the script is right, he's making the film...

The box office take for Kingsman: The Secret Service has proven to be one of the biggest surprises of the movie year. The film, which cost a relatively modest $80m to make (before marketing, distribution, a few snacks at the airport), grossed just over $400m at the global box office. In the Us too it was released against Fifty Shades Of Grey. It was expected to get spanked (ah sorry, it's Friday), but took $128m in America alone.

Around the time of the film's release, Matthew Vaughn - who turned down X-Men: Days Of Future Past to make Kingsman - was chatting about a possible sequel, but didn't want to count his proverbial chickens. No need now, and Fox for one is most definitely after a sequel to the film, »

Daredevil: Jon Bernthal cast as The Punisher

9 June 2015 2:31 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

The Punisher is joining Marvel’s Daredevil series for its second season, he'll be played by The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal

Here’s some big news for Marvel fans – The Punisher is set to join the live action Marvel universe. Specifically, he will be appearing in Daredevil season 2, on Netflix.

The character was tantalisingly teased during the All Hail The King One Shot (some of his rogue's gallery could be seen in a fleeting shot), but now he will appear as a regular recurring character in Hell’s Kitchen.

Donning the skull T-shirt and shooting people will be Jon Bernthal, a familiar face to fans of The Walking Dead, in which he played Shane for the first two seasons. Additionally, he’s also had roles in The Wolf Of Wall Street and Fury in recent years.

For the uninitiated: The Punisher is a violent vigilante, and his real name is Frank Castle. »

Daredevil: 10 Issues That Season 2 Needs To Fix

6 June 2015 12:25 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Netflix

Netflix’s Daredevil, perhaps unexpectedly, has been a roaring success so far. The entirety of season 1 dropped in April to some serious fanfare, and reviews from critics – both the high- and low-brow kind – that reiterated what audiences were already thinking: this was one of the best things Marvel had had a hand in yet.

Despite the difficult nature of the Daredevil concept – blind Hell’s Kitchen lawyer by day, crimefighter with super-senses by night – showrunner Steven DeKnight and creator Drew Goddard managed to make it work. The lead, Charlie Cox, whose career hadn’t exactly taken off after his star turn in Stardust eight years previous, was reborn as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, while Vincent D’Onofrio and the creative team can credit themselves with creating the McU’s first truly great villain in Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin.

Season 1 of Daredevil showed off many strengths across its 13 episodes. But still, »

Rumour: Jason Statham for Daredevil's Bullseye?

5 June 2015 2:11 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

In possibly the most Den Of Geek-relevant rumour of all time, The Stath is being linked to a role as Bullseye in Marvel's Daredevil...

We don't always share rumours on this site, but this one's too good to be true: Jason Statham is purportedly under consideration for the role of Bullseye in Marvel's much-loved Daredevil series on Netflix. Just take a minute to breathe that in... Could this be the Den Of Geek-iest rumour of all time? Is someone pulling our leg?

The rumour comes from Latino Review, who have something of a chequered history with hitting the target (arf) rumour-wise. They've undeniably got it right on a fair few occasions, though.

For the uninitiated: Bullseye is a sharp-shooting hit man with a long history in Marvel Comics lore, dating back to 1976. He's known for never missing his mark, and was played by Colin Farrell in the Ben Affleck movie. »

Daredevil concept art shows Matt Murdock’s red costume

20 May 2015 7:45 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Marvel has given us a glimpse at some concept artwork from Ryan Meinerding for Matt Murdock’s iconic red suit in the Netflix series Daredevil, which looks pretty close indeed to the costume that made it on screen in the season finale…

“The tone that was really communicated was the sense of realism that they were going for,” Meinerding tells Marvel.com. “I think the way that [manifested itself in] the costume was through the armor and making it feel a little bit more padded than you traditionally think of Daredevil being. When we do these designs, there’s a concept of grounded and a concept of reality. The grounded nature that they brought to the vigilante costume was the simplicity and effectiveness, because you’re trying to conceal your identity but also [have to be] mobile enough to fight. When you do a super hero costume in that world, it’s hard to be as »

Orphan Black season 3 episode 4 review: Newer Elements Of Our Defense

10 May 2015 1:10 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Orphan Black is firing on every cylinder in its third season, making its fourth season renewal even more cause for celebration...

This review contains spoilers.

3.4 Newer Elements Of Our Defense

In this week's episode of Orphan Black, everything is extremely tense, and it's probably my favourite episode of the season.

I have never been more happy to be wrong. I assumed Mark was fatally shot at the end of the previous episode and I am delighted to tell you that I was mistaken. Delighted because it leads to one of the greatest things this show has ever done: put Sarah and Mark in a scenario in which they need each other and have to actively help each other, while still retaining the tension that comes from the fact that we never quite know which of them is playing the other. It's brilliantly written and acted from top to bottom and »

Daredevil season 2: which stories can we expect to see?

30 April 2015 1:39 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

With season 2 of Daredevil on its way, we look ahead to the comics stories it could include, from Frank Miller, Brian Bendis and more...

Warning: Daredevil comics and potential season 2 spoilers.

The success of Netflix's Daredevil show led to the unexpected (and entirely welcome) decision to commission a second season which will begin filming before the end of the year. But with the first season largely covering the origin stories of Matt Murdock as Daredevil and his nemesis Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin), where can season 2 go with it? We've taken a look to try and find out. Although beware – you've definitely got spoilers for the comics and probably for Season 2 as well!

Born Again

If you had to bet on any story getting adapted, this'd be the one. Frank Miller's critically-acclaimed Daredevil run was actually split into two parts, and this is the second. It teamed Miller with artist »

Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 on Fox's agenda

29 April 2015 10:29 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

20th Century Fox is after a sequel to Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service...

Director Matthew Vaughn was playing his cards relatively close to his chest around the time of Kingsman: The Secret Service's release earlier this year. But it was easy enough to see between the lines: he was keen on a Kingsman 2, but it was down to the box office performance of the first film.

Well, Kingsman: The Secret Service has now become one of the surprise hits of the year, creeping to a box office total of over $400m worldwide off a relatively modest budget for a film of its scale. And as such, 20th Century Fox is looking to press ahead with a Kingsman 2.

It's unlikely to be Matthew Vaughn's next project as director, but don't be surprised if he gets to it soon after. Taron Egerton is a cert to return for the sequel, »

Joss Whedon fought for a Daredevil movie at Marvel

29 April 2015 1:20 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Marvel kicked off its Netflix shows earlier this month with the release of the 13-part series Daredevil, but if Joss Whedon had his way, the Man Without Fear would never have appeared on the small screen, with the Avengers: Age of Ultron helmer telling IGN that he fought for a Daredevil movie from Marvel Studios.

“I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show. Then under the auspices of Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight… I’m dying to see the show but they released it just as I started the press tour! If the show’s working, the show’s working. Comic books are serialised entertainment and a lot of them lend themselves to TV shows as much or more than they do to movies. I like [Daredevil] because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me I didn’t think »
