Pre-Christmas snow put the brakes on Tron: Legacy, but at least it did better than disappointing Burlesque and Fred: The Movie
Snow 1, Tron 0When you release a film in spring or early summer, you always run the risk that a freak sunny weekend will play havoc with your box office. In winter, however bad the weather, it's rare for conditions to be so severe that it deters potential cinemagoers from leaving their homes. So whatever you think of Disney's decision to reactivate its long-dormant Tron property – gutsy move or standard Hollywood creative atrophy – it's hard not to feel some sympathy for the unlucky timing of the UK release.
The last weekend before Christmas, with schools across the country breaking up for the festive holiday, should be the right time to release a film with family appeal. Tron: Legacy debuted with a lacklustre £1.97m, below the opening of the previous week's Chronicles of Narnia instalment, »

The Fine Brothers, an internet comedy duo that speaks fast and spoils movies, is back to spit in your eggnog this holiday season with “50 Christmas Spoilers in 3 Minutes.”
Faster than you can go a-wasailling, Benny and Rafi Fine spoil every Christmas movie you’ve ever heard of — and some that you haven’t. As with all Fine Brothers YouTube videos, there are two types of viewers.
The first love the spitfire, spoiler-soaked, saccharin snark and wish the yucksters plenty of presents under the Christmas tree. Or menorah. The other, perhaps the Grinches of the group, want to stuff the boys’ faces with figgy pudding to dam the endless patter of plot-ruining banter.
Where do you fall on the Fines? While you chew that over, here’s a list of all 50 Christmas films:
A Christmas Carol, Scrooge: A Christmas Carol (1951), A Christmas Carol (2009), The Muppet Christmas Carol, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, »

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale
Directed by: Jalmari Helander
Cast: Jorma Tommila, Onni Tommila, Peeter Jakobi
Running Time: 1 hr 24 min
Rating: R
Release Date: December 3, 2010 (limited)
Plot: In the Korvatunturi Mountains in Finland, an excavation unearths the resting place of the original Santa Claus, so they decide to dig the fat boy up! Except, he’s not nearly as friendly as the children’s stories would have you believe…
Who’S It For? Fans of wacky foreign films and I don’t mean “wacky” as in “goofy, light-hearted fun.” I mean bizarre and incredibly original, in a very dark sort of way.
Overall
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale looks absolutely phenomenal. The direction is outstanding and the cinematography will blow you away as it sweeps you across the deep snow fields of Finnish mountains. Plus, you’ve never seen an action/horror movie where Santa is the antagonist before, »

Lionsgate has announced a pair of animated biblical Blu-ray and DVD combo pack releases priced at $19.99 each are coming March 8 in celebration of Easter.
First is Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie, the first feature-length film starring the goofy and amusing VeggieTales gang lead by Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber. As the name implies, the film will retell the story of Jonah and the Whale with a comedic twist as only VeggieTales can deliver.
On a more serious note is The Miracle Maker, the popular clay animation starring the voices of Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1), William Hurt (The Incredible Hulk), Miranda Richardson (Fred Claus) and Alfred Molina (The Sorcerer's Apprentice). The Miracle Maker tells the story of Christ and will feature over three-and-a-half hours of bonus features.
I'll pass along cover art and Amazon pre-order links for each title as they become available. »

Kevin James and Vince Vaughn seem perfectly ripe for their roles in “The Dilemma,” Ron Howard’s forthcoming comedy with a twist of mystery. The former has recently stuck with kid and slapstick comedies, like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “Grown Ups” and forthcoming “Zookeeper”; he said in his interview with HitFix and others on the Chicago-based set that he was drawn to the more “serious” subject matter of “Dilemma.” The latter has churned through holiday and romantic comedies in the last few years, including “Couples Retreat,” “Four Christmases” and “Fred Claus” -- but endeavored to take up this new role with »

When I was invited this past August to visit the set of 'The Dilemma' -- the upcoming Ron Howard comedy starring Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly and Winona Ryder -- it was shockingly easy to say yes. And not only because I live mere minutes from the Chicago set.
Still, while I've been a big fan of Vince Vaughn's for years (my first date with my wife was to see 'Wedding Crashers,' and I even saw his little-seen documentary about his traveling comedy tour), I haven't been digging what he's has been doing lately. 'Fred Claus' and 'Four Christmases' were such cynical, joyless flicks that they nearly ruined my holiday spirit. When I read the awful reviews for "Couples Retreat," I didn't even bother Netflixing it.
But 'The Dilemma,' about a man (Vaughn) who discovers »

Steven Soderbergh has been approached by Warner Bros Pictures to direct a big screen adaptation of the 1960s TV series The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. The classic TV show followed the exploits of double agents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, and ran from 1964-1968, winning a Golden Globe in 1966 for Best TV Show.
Warners has also asked The Informant! screenwriter Scott Z Burns to work on the script, reports The Hollywood Reporter. If Soderbergh accepts, he'll be taking over the job from David Dobkin (Fred Claus, Wedding Crashers) - the latest in a string of directors who've been attached to the project. There's no word yet on the tone the film will take with Soderbergh at the helm. Dobkin, who'll now be involved on a producer level, was looking to make The Man From U.N.C.L.E. an action comedy says THR. »

Steven Soderbergh is in early talks to direct "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." from Warner Bros. according to The Hollywood Reporter. Scott Z. Burns, who collaborated with Soderbergh in "The Informant" and the upcoming "Contagion," is negotiating to write the script.
This has been a long, gestating project which first saw David Dobkin ("Wedding Crashers," "Fred Claus") as director and Max Borenstein as scriptwriter.
Based on an NBC show which ran from September 22, 1964 to January 15, 1968, "The Man from U.N.C.L.E. follows the adventures of two secret agents, originally played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum. They work for a secret international law-enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E. (the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement). "James Bond" creator, Ian Fleming, contributed to the creation of the show.

Cast: Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart, Mary Steenburgen, Zooey Deschanel
Running Time:
Rating: PG
Due Out: October 26, 2010

Plot: Buddy (Ferrell) has literally out-grown his elf community. He leaves Santa (Asner) and the North Pole to find his real father in New York City.
Who’S It For? Anyone who needs the holiday spirit.
Movie:
At first it seemed Elf was going to be all for laughs as Buddy was talking to whales and what not at the North Pole. But gosh darn it, there’s a story here that could even melt Scrooge’s heart, or in this case James Caan’s character Walter.
It’s a great fish out of water story and it’s high time I start including this performance as one of Ferrell’s best. I always say Old Schoold and Anchorman but Buddy, »

Dan Fogelman, screenwriter of "Cars," "Fred Claus" and "Bolt," will make his directorial debut with "Imagine," a comedy Steve Carell will star in. Fogelman also wrote the film Warner Bros. is developing.
Deadline says the story follows a musician who attempts to change his lifestyle after he reads an old letter John Lennon and Yoko Ono wrote him. He heads out to reconnect with the son (Carell) he's never met.
Definitely sounds liks a charming story. Let's hope it's a comedy/drama along the lines of "Dan in Real Life." Fogelman, by the way, also penned Disney's "Tangled" and the upcoming "Crazy, Stupid, Love." »

Dan Fogelman, best known for his written work in "Fred Claus," "Bolt" and the upcoming Disney princess movie "Tangled," will be making his directorial debut in "Imagine." Along with that, the Warner Bros production has Steve Carell on board to star. Carell will be producing off his Carousel Productions banner with Vance DeGeneres and Denise Di Novi. "Imagine," penned by Fogelman, revolves around a rocker who works on fixing up his life when he finds a letter written to him by John Lennon. He then goes on a journey trying to find his biological son (Carell) that he's never met. No word on who will play the father, but since it has a big name like Carell attached surely they can find another actor of that stature to fill the role fast enough. Carell and Fogelman recently teamed up on the comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" that's set to be released in theaters on April 22nd, »
