Doug Jones cast as Deathbolt in Arrow

18 February 2015 1:25 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It looks like Oliver Queen’s skills are going to be put to the test by his first super-powered villain this season, with IGN reporting that Doug Jones is set to appear in Arrow as Jake Simmons, a.k.a. Deathbolt.

Making his debut in 1983 in All-Star Squadron #21, Deathbolt was the result of an experiment by the Ultra-Humanite, which left him with several metahuman abilities, including the power to absorb and manipulate electricity.

Jones has previously comic book experience, having played Abe Sapien in Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy movies, as well as the Silver Surfer in Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. He also appeared as ‘Thin Clown’ in 1992’s Batman Returns.

Hellboy Actor Doug Jones Joins Arrow As 'Deathbolt'

18 February 2015 8:20 AM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Though Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) has appeared on Arrow, the titular Emerald Archer has yet to face off against an actual SUPERvillain over the course of the show's run. Well, that will change in the upcoming nineteenth episode (titled "Broken Arrow") when he takes on Deathbolt. This character -- real name is Jake Simmons -- was first introduced in All-Star Squadron #21 back in 1983, and had the power to manipulate electricity. According to IGN, in Arrow Simmons will "be a metahuman with the ability to harness and weaponize plasma energy." Deathbolt will be played by Doug Jones, who should be well known around these parts as a frequent collaborator of Guillermo del Toro's, on projects such as Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth and The Strain. He also starred in Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer as the cosmic Marvel hero of the title. »

Twentieth Century Fox has released the first teaser trailer for Josh Trank’s reboot of Marvel’s “Fantastic Four,” six months before its Aug. 7 release.

The trailer gives a first look at a more grounded world prior to the transformation of four friends into superheroes, with a somber voiceover intoning, “With every new discovery, there is risk, there is sacrifice and there are consequences.”

Miles Teller leads the team as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic; Kate Mara plays Susan Storm/Invisible Woman; Michael B. Jordan portrays Johnny Storm/Human Torch; and Jamie Bell tackles Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Trank directed from a script he wrote with Simon Kinberg and Jeremy Slater. It’s Fox’s third film in the franchise: the first “Fantastic Four” opened in 2005, followed by 2007’s “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”

'Deadpool' Will Shoot in Vancouver This March

19 January 2015 10:12 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last month, 20th Century Fox finalized their deal with actor Ryan Reynolds to return as Deadpool, reprising his role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with shooting scheduled to begin this March. Today, GlobeNews.ca reports that the production will shoot in Ryan Reynolds' hometown of Vancouver starting in late March. The movie has booked two months at Vancouver's North Shore Studios, although it isn't known if the production will shoot in any other locations around the city. Just one month after Deadpool starts shooting, the studio's other upcoming superhero adventure, X-Men: Apocalypse, will begin production on the other side of Canada, in Montreal.

After years of speculation, 20th Century Fox finally announced in September that they are moving forward with Deadpool, handing out a February 12, 2016 release date for the comic book adaptation. That news came just a few months after test footage leaked earlier that summer, which was received positively by the fans. »

'Fantastic Four' Gets 'Wolverine' Composer Marco Beltrami

6 January 2015 5:20 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

With just over eight months until its release, The Fantastic Four has brought on composer Marco Beltrami to provide the score for 20th Century Fox's superhero reboot. Perhaps this means that the composer will start crafting new music for the first trailer, which fans have been eagerly awaiting since principal photography wrapped in August. We haven't even seen an official photo with cast members Miles Teller (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch), Kate Mara (Sue Storm/The Invisible Girl) and Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm/The Thing), aside from a selfie from the set by Kate Mara back in August.

Producer Simon Kinberg revealed in October that fans haven't seen anything from the reboot yet because the filmmakers are trying to make sure that the first look encompasses the voice of this movie, since it is vastly different from the 2005 Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel »
