International screenings save X-Men: Apocalypse at the box office as it crosses $400 million worldwide

6 June 2016 4:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Among a sea of mediocre reviews [read ours here, here and here], Bryan Singer’s mutant movie X-Men: Apocalypse has not been performing too well in its domestic release. However its international screenings are really helping push the movie further up the success chart.

Now in its second week, X-Men: Apocalypse dropped 66% to $22 million, losing the top spot to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. It now boasts a domestic total of $116 million, with a projected overall total of $160 million – which is what X-Men did back in 2000 and where X-Men: Days of Future Past was in just ten days. Two weeks into its release, and it still isn’t in the domestic top 40 of the highest grossing superhero movies, currently behind Green Lantern and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Thankfully for 20th Century Fox, the international screenings have really helped. It earned an estimated $84 million worldwide over the weekend, $59 million of which »

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ranked

5 May 2016 5:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Thirteen movies, eight years, one wholly incontrovertible ranking.

Everyone loves ranking things. Books, restaurants, vacations, sex partners — we all love a good ranked list that puts things (or people) in their place ahead of or behind other things (or people). It may not offer much room for serious and deep critiques, but it’s a fun way to see where other people’s opinions stand against the objective truth of your own.

Honestly, we really thought someone would have done this with the Marvel Cinematic Universe by now. It seems like a no-brainer, but after nearly two minutes of googling on AskJeeves.com we were forced to acknowledge that no one else had ranked these thirteen movies. So it’s up to us to fill that void.

It probably goes without saying, but we’re only including the actual McU films here meaning no X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Punisher, Blade »

Doug Jones to Star in ‘Nosferatu’ Remake

13 April 2016 6:32 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Filming has begun on the remake of the iconic German expressionist horror film “Nosferatu” with Doug Jones starring in the title role.

F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film is considered the first true vampire film ever made. It follows a young woman’s supernatural quest to not only save her true love’s soul, but in fact the entire world from the shadow of infernal darkness.

Director David Lee Fisher (“The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”) is creating a remix of the original film with a mixture of live-action combined with colorized digital backgrounds recreated from the original film.

The film, shot in 1921, was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” with names changed because the studio could not obtain the rights to the novel.

Jones has played such characters as Abe Sapien in the two “Hellboy” movies, the Pale Man from “Pan’s Labyrinth” and the Silver Surfer in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer »

Can Melissa McCarthy Show 'Batman v Superman' Who's 'The Boss'?

7 April 2016 12:58 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Last weekend Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice saw a 69% second weekend drop in the face of no new competition from the major studios, yet it still retained the #1 position at the box office by a wide margin. This week the superhero slugfest may have a tougher fight on its hands as Melissa McCarthy enters the ring with her newest comedy The Boss. Meanwhile, Stx is targeting the attention of gamers with the intense, first person actioner Hardcore Henry and Fox Searchlight has bumped up the release of Demolition from an estimated 550 theaters to over 850 theaters this weekend. At the top, Batman v Superman is hoping to bounce back this weekend. In an attempt to determine what that may look like, the first number to consider is the average, 47.5% drop for film's in their third weekend that opened in over 3,700 theaters and scored a "B" CinemaScore. That said, things could also go the other direction, »
