Mexico City -- Private firm Nala Investments and talent management company Latin World Entertainment have joined forces to launch Nala Entertainment, a Hispanic TV production venture that has begun operations with $100 million in funding.
Los Angeles/Miami-based Nala will focus on the financing, development and production of Spanish-language TV programs. Latin World Entertainment's chief executive Luis Balaguer says the upstart company is looking to produce two telenovelas a year with indie producer Argos, its Mexico-based partner.
A pilot already has been shot for Nala's first scripted series, "El Diez." Balaguer describes the program as " 'Entourage' meets the world of soccer."
Nala will be looking to sell its content to leading U.S. Spanish-language networks Univision and Telemundo and to broadcasters throughout Latin America.
