Storyline

Brian Wicklow is a cultured but extremely dangerous serial killer, imprisoned for the murder of eight women. However a ninth victim, Emma Foley, was never found and inspector Eve Granger with her colleague Ajay Roychowdry are sent to interview Wicklow as to her whereabouts, having been warned that he has a razor sharp mind and will attempt to manipulate them, which he does, demanding more information than he gives. Eve's old flame, toy restorer Jake Osbourne, imprisoned for killing his wife and her lover, a policeman, shared a cell for a while with Wicklow and Eve, courting disapproval as Jake killed a police officer, uses his knowledge in her bid to outwit Wicklow. Ultimately Emma's body is located but in a sense it is as much a victory for Wicklow as for the police. Written by don @ minifie-1

It's not a Cracker
11 September 2006 | by See all my reviews

The storyline of "Cold Blood" was much too thin and the sub-plots did little to enhance it. The ending was totally predictable and without Matthew Kelly's riveting (albeit sometimes a tad unconvincing) portrayal of the evil convicted serial killer, the film could have fallen flat on its face.

In view of the modern and alarming increased prevalence of the types of crimes suggested here, "Cold Blood", if given deeper thought, could have been much better, and not just produced as an inferior "Cracker", "Messiah", "Prime Suspect" or even "Silence of the Lambs".

As to the the play itself, only two main characters were really necessary. Those of the interrogator and the interrogated, with whom, in my opinion, it would have been equally as interesting and effective as what's on offer here. (See "The Prisoner" starring Jack Hawkins and Alec Guinness.) Overall I found "Cold Blood" watchable, but disappointing. Nevertheless it whiled away an hour and a half when, as I remember, there wasn't anything better to watch on TV at the time, and I was too lazy or too tired to do anything else.
