Mipcom: Studiocanal Brings ‘Midnight Sun,’ ‘Below the Surface’ Onto Market

18 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Led by “Midnight Sun,” one of the most anticipated shows in Europe, Studiocanal is bringing four new TV series onto the market at Mipcom, its biggest TV sales slate ever.

Backed by Canal Plus and Swedish broadcaster Svt and written by “The Bridge” co-screenwriters Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein, “Midnight Sun” is joined by “Below the Surface,” from Denmark’s Sam Productions, run by the creators of “Borgen” and “The Killing” and the producer of “A Royal Affair.” The two series establish Studiocanal as a preeminent representative of Nordic noir and Scandinavian TV talent at Mipcom.

Also on Studiocanal’s slate: the procedural “Paranoid,” from Nicola Shindler’s Manchester-based Red Production Company, producer of Harlan Coben’s “The Five,” which launched last week on ITV1 to above-average ratings; and “Crazyhead,” from “Misfits” creator Howard Overman, described as a “Buffy”-style demon slayer horror comedy, from London’s Urban Myth Films.

Torchwood: John Barrowman Laments Revival Frustrations

13 September 2016 2:33 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Torchwood ended five years ago, and a revival has been possible. However, the man behind Captain Jack, John Barrowman, has revealed the reasons why a revival has not already happened. It is a matter of egos, according to him. Radio Times shared his comments. He said the following:“I was told that there are some obstacles to overcome, and every time I tried to talk about a way around them, it was almost like there was another obstacle. And this is a personal thing for me, this is not anything that was discussed, but I find it really a little disheartening that a company like the BBC can’t just say ‘Put your egos aside, we’re gonna go forward with this.’ I travel all over the world, and I see the popularity of Torchwood. But when it comes down that it’s not being done »

Steven Moffat has responded to the claim that he's stopped more Torchwood episodes from being made...

At San Diego Comic-Con, talking about TorchwoodJohn Barrowman revealed that he had a phonecall coming up to "see how we can get it back on television." Zap2It shared the quote online, and excitement rang out among fans of the show.

Now, a new video has emerged on Twitter where Barrowman reveals how the phonecall went...

By the sounds of it, as is strongly implied in that video, Barrowman was given the impression that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat is holding up Torchwood's mooted return.

Courtesy of DoctorWhoTV.com, we've caught wind of this response from Steven Moffat himself...

The Living And The Dead episode 1 review

Episode one of handsome new BBC supernatural period drama The Living And The Dead feat. Colin Morgan ends on a gripping hook…

This review contains episode 1 spoilers.

Ashley Pharoah, the creator of The Living And The Dead, made his name writing genre TV with a twist. He and Matthew Graham added a time travel mystery to the police procedural in Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes, then spliced the supernatural with court drama in Eternal Law.

Pharoah’s new series The Living And The Dead plays the same game. It’s a traditional Victorian ghost story with Something Else Going On. Two events in the first episode alert viewers to this fact – the vapour trail of a modern airplane in the 1894 Somerset sky and the closing sight of a twenty-first century woman, iPad in hand, walking around the nineteenth-century farmhouse in which the story is set. »

With such a long history, you can join in on the fun anywhere, anytime. ‘The Good Wife’ Spinoff to Star Christine Baranski, Cush Jumbo in Negotiations at CBS All Access

12 May 2016 2:30 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Sources say CBS is in final negotiations to set up a spinoff of “The Good Wife” focusing on Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart character that would air on CBS All Access.

Actress Cush Jumbo, who joined the “Good Wife” cast in the show’s seventh and final season, is also expected to star in the spinoff. Sources cautioned that the deal is still in negotiations for a straight-to-series order and may not come to fruition. “Good Wife” co-creators/exec producers Robert and Michelle King would likely co-write the project with another “Good Wife” alum. They pair would be exec producers but not serve as showrunners.

Word that CBS is serious talks for a spinoff surfaced less than a week after “Good Wife” wrapped its Emmy-winning run on May 8. The series closer generated much discussion about the fate of its central characters and the denouement between Baranski’s Lockhart and Julianna Margulies’ Alicia Florrick. »
